If you want to get the 3d modlule (second 1080 camera also required), the LCD viewing gadget or if you want to burn HD clips to DVD to view on your LCD TV, get the 1080. If you simply want to post to YouTube and don't mind 720 HD quality, get the 960. All my YouTube clips were shot with my 960. Latest uploads of Sani2C are 720. I thought they were pretty good quality. What software were you considering for editing work?

I think the 960 will satisfy most of your needs. 3D come on.. it's gimmicky to begin with.

1080p? hahaha, difference between that and 720p is minimal.

All the other add-ons are nice, but unfortunately i'm not amped cos they used to leverage sales of the 1080p unit. Norty norty company. ;)

that said, i bought the 1080p unit only cos the 960p wasn't released at the time.

if all you wanna do is take videos, then 960 will do just fine. If u wanna spend money buying hardly used bits and pieces, more practically, if u really really really really need the live preview piggyback screen, then get the 1080p. (but u dont really really really need it, as the wide angle lens covers most of what you going to point the lense at manually. I'll be amazed if u miss anything honestly).

Thanks for the feedback. I just wanted to mess around a bit and make a few videos to watch nothing serious. I was planning on using vegas 10 to edit the videos. For my purpouse it seems the extra grand is not worth it thanks.

If you plan on just 'messing with it' then you may want to consider 2 other mini cams that are gaining popularity, the Contour HD and the Replay XD

Another action cam thats really really cool if you have a Android or iphone is the Looxcie

The best thing about the Looxcie is the 4hrs recording time. All the others record for about 2 to 2.5 hrs

they look cool but I also surf so the waterproof housing is a must

If you're looking for something waterproof you can also check out the Oregon Scientific ATC9K. 20m waterproof without the need for an additional housing, 30fps @ 1080p or 60fps @ 720p, build in G-sensor and the ability to add a GPS unit. I got mine in December from Killerdeals.co.za for R2700 including shipping. I haven't compared it to the GO Pro or Contour, but I'm pretty happy with the quality. But must say that I used it on 720p @ 60fps 90% of the time - the higher frame rate offers a smoother image.

There was someone on the here who was selling his for around R2500, don't know if it is still available.

What's the best format to save edited clips in? In Sony Vegas there are about 50 000 options, Do I just save it as a Mp4 again or is there a more manageable format.

I don't want it to be grainy or view it on a small screen yet I still want to be able to Zip it or upload it.
