LoL, just thought of using the headgear that wraps around your head and covers your ears, forehead, and back of the head and then leaves the crown of your head exposed to expel heat. Ive got both of these,

If I had them I'd wear them *with* the beanie!

Beanie worked like a bomb.

Now need something similar for my toes (toe-warmers fought a good fight but in the end the sub-zero temperature was just too much) and need added protection for my fingers and knees (esp. the back).

Hopefully it won't get much colder but at the end of the ride the electronic billboard on the cnr of Sandton and William Nichol was reading -1 and this after we had been riding for well over an hour...chilly :o

I used a apir of Pearl Izumi AMFib tights when I used to commute in the UK, I used to ride these at temps of about -5 deg. So warm and toasty with neoprene is specific place, thighs, over the knees - Place that take direct wind. I swear by them, did not feel the cold at all.

Caerus, they look the bomb but then again they should at $120 USD

Is there a local distributor and, if so, are they more sensitive to the meagre rand earnings of a devoted cyclist ;)

crawled out the bed at 9 this morning... Friday is one of those days that not much gets done!

Seems like that is an international standard

That's a normal daily routine for Capetonians, is it not? :P

I knew a chap who also sukkled to wake up early for training (Kung fu, not cycling) in fact he was one of those chaps who would occasionaly get to work late because he overslept.....

Anyway to solve his kung fu training problem (getting punished by his coach for missing training) he used to put the alarm clock out of reach of the bed and a bottle of bioplus next to it. This forced him to get up to switch it off and then he would slurp down some bioplus....his theory was that it was impossible to sleep after that so he may as well go to training.

They are tad expensive, but they will last a very, very long time, Ive had mine for 5 years already and besides the small hole from a wipeout oin the tar, they are still as good as the day I bought them. Trust me you WILL NOT feel the cold, I cycled in snow storms in them and didnt bat an eyelid.

Coolheat are the distributers for Pearl Izumi, I did look last night at the coolheat website, but they did not show them. So maybe an overseas order might be a good idea

Another great brand is Altura, but don't think anyone does there stuff here. They are cold weather cycling gear specialists.

Sorry guys - does it make it better if I say I got up at 4h30 yesterday and the day before for a quick pre-work run?
