Rate and comment your LBS on alloutmtb.co.za - the hellopeter for bike shops

Hi Hubbers,

Can you pls send the details of your local bike shop if it is not on alloutmtb.co.za yet. We want to try and get as many bike shops listed as possible.

The functionality is currently on the site for you to rate the bike shops and comment on their service. As soon as the ratings start coming in will I create block on the home page to show the five best rated bike shops at any given time.

Hopefully this wil have a big enough impact on the shops to start picking up their service levels. Currently service level all over SA are pathetic to say the least. We now have the power to change this.

If a cycle shop performs great it will refelct on alloutmtb and the same will go for poor service.

The success of this will depend on all of you guys. Almost like the hellopeter for bike shops.

So, if you dont give your rating and comment on your local bike shop, you cant complain. Sounds like the local election.

The link to a list of all the shops

http://www.alloutmtb.co.za/allcycleshops

I will add a filter search this evening to make it easier to find your shop in the list.

Thanks to all of you in advance.

The danger of this... what is the rating based on? (we discussed a rating system like this previously)

Good service, define good? define service?

Some guys are just dicks and doesnt know their derailleur from their chain and will therefore complain about everything and blame the mechanic for being clueless.

Others have long standing relationships with their LBS's and will probably get little favors done that a noob walking into the shop wont be able to do.

A good experience is a good experience......... And a bad 1 is just bad. I'm sure It's easy to differentiate between the two. Tankman's got a point though. But I'd be interested to see these ratings....... like at "hellopeter.com". So people can see what experiences are like at LBS', and decide whether they want to "take their business elsewhere", or take their chances.

I'd like to say that I've had good experiences at Revolution Cycles/Load and Go

And bad ones at Helderbeg Cycle World, although, I have to commend the youngsters at Helderberg Cycle world, they always wiling to assist.

I agree and you have a point. But then again you will always get those type of people in any industry but that doesnt mean we shouldnt make our statement and let ourselves be heard.

Its exactly because of this that bike shops are getting away with murder, everyone is too scared too speak up. Dont get me wrong, the idea is not to just black list but also to praise good service. And thats why we will have a block on the home page for "top 5 best cycle shops" and not "top 5 worst".

We will from our side verify all comments and ratings, it is to recognize most bogus comments and ratings.

I Found a place down the road from my work in Midrand

SUMMIT CYCLES.

I Had a bad bail 2 days before a big race and bent my jockey/hanger and snapped a cable , and been under pressure at work i knew that i wouldn't be able to do repairs myself in the evenings let alone get spares etc ,and seen as they are right down the road from graft, i asked if they could assist me with the repairs on short notice Friday morning .. anyway the owner said no problem and went out of their way to jump my 96 to the front of fridays list of repairs, and i had my bike at 4pm that day ready for Saturdays race.

so big up to a bike shop that i never even knew about , took a chance on and was Pleasantly surprised and Happy with.

Big up To SUMMIT CYCLES in Midrand!!

Hi. My LBS is Dave Wiseman Cycles in Glenwood, Durban. If I have something mechanically wrong that I can't fix, I like to take it to them as I have had good experiences where the work I have asked to be done has generally been done well. Their prices, imho, are also very reasonable and there staff are helpful - that's my experience, anyway :)

I think it needs to be seen. I've had several bad experiences with Revolution, the last of which I took R25k worth of business to another shop. It doesn't help to just have a blind rating system. You need to be able to see why the rock or suck. Kind of like the reviews on MTBR.
