This is shocking and really p!sses me off. These f@ckers are doing what they want with us. Makes me sick. Glad you guys are safe.

Wonder when this will hit Bloem, currently we are safe and you can ride alone.... but for how long?

Two tracker options I've been looking into for bike riding. The small, cheaper one will work for Cycling. Chuck it in your wallet or Camelbak and give the guy the whole thing.

Small Tracker

Bigger GPS Tracker

There is also some software available to load on your phone for mobile tracking and do wipe the memory. Will try to find the link.

That small tracker looks very good. If we all rode with these, and hid them well inside our packs, I think it'd lead to arrests being made. That's a very workable solution. Can we get them for R200 a piece though?

Myself and a couple of mates are looking to order a couple to give it a bash. Hopefully we'll be able to neg a better price if we order 10/20 or something like that. Maybe I'll start a thread to see who'd like to join.

You can put me down for 1 if you decide to get an order going. I'm keen to know how the SOS function on it works. It'd be cool if this contacts a number with GPS co-ords should an accident happen etc. This way I'd not need to take a cellphone riding. I hate getting calls when I'm out in the hills so really it's just about being able to call the medics should I wrap my arse around a pine tree.

What about trying to get a LBS to stock them? they can do a bulk order.

The tracker looks like a fine option. I must say I did like the idea of having a spade with you too as one comment sugested. What we also dont understand living in the CAPE (I live 5 DAYS IN jhb AND 2 IN cpt each week) When you get attacked in JHB they may first kill you and then check what they are going to take. You need to be in a position to change there mind which is either they need to understand over time that they keep getting caught (cause there is a tracking decvice in what they stolen)or you need to face their gun with a gun. This is not melodramatic, it is pure cause and effect. The only way the ANC is going to win back the Western CAPE is to flood us with more ANC supporters and that is slowly but surely going to give us the same challenges that JHB has. It is about managing your environment until it is no longer worth managing and then go somewhere else. Any argument against the fact that things will get worse in SA, please make it as I have yet to hear a valid argument in the last few years.

It's getting worse by the year. It pains me deeply. So much potential. This talk of Nationalising things and taking property/farms is very troublesome. Firstly, I don't think they understand that the economy is based on business and land values. You only need to look at Zim to see the results of killing the golden goose. I gave up long ago though. We've stopped buying property here. I didnt upgrade my car this year, I've started a company with a partner in the US and we've started becoming comfy with the idea of living in a different place. It pisses me off. This country is as much my birthright as any other South African's. My forefathers fought just as hard to make it great. My father risked his life in Angola so that we can ALL be safe. Now we have to see it all pissed away like this.

I hear you about being armed. I'm happy to be armed at home, or travelling etc. Out in the hills it's harder to be alert and ready. In a house you are forewarned. First you'd hear the dogs, then an alarm, by then the gunsafe is open, by the time they pop their head through the freshly broken window there's a nice hollowpoint on the way.

Anyway. I'm off for a ride. Finally.

enough mtb'ers have been mugged in that area including one that serves on the PPA committee. surely it would be easy to plot the hot spot, organise a vigilante group to stake out the area and set up a sting. i'm sure my club who have members who ride TM every other weekend can supply a few 'breekers'.

Craig Niner...well handled there dude.

CALM is the power. When someone has the jump on you - calm.

First class.

We generally refer to "tears in a can" as pepper spray here in KZN. Obviously a different terminology necessary for men who carry it in CT then!?

Good write-up. Glad you are unscathed.

EDIT: Instead of Rape Spray, maybe a BLOODY GREAT KNIFE in the style of that shabby Auzzie Bloke might also work! "You think thatz a knoife mate?"

You see gents, what you have to realise is that we in SA are actually Fuc3d. The situation will never improve in our lifetimes if ever. You need to have a contingency plan. If you want to ride come and ride in Durbanville, we do have a few problems, but most of the problem area we are busy fencing. The rest of the area is private land which is monitored by farmers with guns and attitude. Make sure that you plan your future to live somewhere else, just in case. Always having a plan doesnt mean you have to excute it. There is so much sh!t around table mountain, rather ride elsewhere. If there are a few of you and one of you are packing, before you shoot somebody make sure that the shooter is alone with the attacker so once you have a body , none of your friends have to testify as a witness.Make also sure that the attacker has a bloody big weapon and make sure that you take loads of pics, we dont want the police to screw up the crime scene. There are very very few good smart cops left. The smart ones have all left and even if you find a good one he must be thick cause he is still there!

In London they just pull you off your bike and kick the crap out of you - have done for years!
