My question is why should private citizens that pay taxes put themselves in harms way to make the mountains safer?

I agree we have an entire military force that sit around the whole day and does absolutly jack didley squat, except waste our tax money and eat themselves into oblivion.

Deploy military patrols, Have the army do excersizes in the mountains, Let them have training camps. I personally cant think of better recon training than creeping up on criminals when they least expect it.

Agreed!!

I almost got mugged the other day. Then the would be mugger dropped his knife and asked, 'are those 29" whells?' I said yes, to which he replied, 'in that case, keep your damn clown bike.'

why you riding your road bike on the mountain?

Well, what you need to do is to get a few mean looking mates together, make a posse and go ride on the Mountain together.

But.....right now I've finished work early, I can see Rhodes Memorial out of my window, my bike is ready, but the mates can't go! Do I go and ride alone? Yes, I think I will, the weather is great, the chances are so slim I'll run into a mugger! But then I hear my sons talking upstairs and I think of all the wonderful things I want to do with them as they grow up........and I start to waver......The bad guys win!

Fu%$#$@@&*&*^^%$#@*ng polititions, to them it's just a PR exercise.

Despite the above, I decided to take the road bike and do intervals on the steep straight tar section on the way up to Rhodes memorial. Nasty place for a very nasty exercise. It probably was more of a danger to my health than all the bloody muggers together! What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger, I suppose.

So, the bad guys didn't win today, after all. (Did see a beautiful titanium Litespeed Sewanee up there and considered turning to mugging myself for a brief moment.)

You guys are all from cape Town where the DA are in power so to speak. Cant you petition Helen Zille to mobilize the army and get them patrolling the mountain and setting up road blocks. Either that or tell them to ship out declare independence and hire your own army. That would seriously piss off guys like Malema and the other ANC cronies and I would be one of many people packing up and moving to cape Town. I'm dreaming of course ... :)

Normal police have no chance on a mountain. Even though they try they not equipped for it.I agree send the army out. Better yet , Redeploy 32 bat and tell them to clean the mountain . Will be done in a blink of a eye

No point ranting but im going to do it anyway, The mentality of this guvment is amazing,

1. lets ****** the school system employ useless teachers and buy a failed curriculum that failed in both the states and uk and then we tell parents they need to spend their nights teaching their kids so they can pass school. And if the kids fail its the parents fault.

2. Criminal elements run rampant no control and useless police, army and metro force wasting oxygen, but its the private citizen that has less rights than the criminals responsibility to cleanup our cities and surrounds.

seems the menatlity is we can f up all we want to as guvment, and then we will make it the problem of the hardworking citizen.

Keep in mind that the real 32 Batallion guys of yore are now in their forties and fifties, I fear that getting them to patrol and climb Table Mountain will be the cause of more heart attacks than arrests.
