Race T-Shirts

This is not a full on rant but more of an enquiry as i am genuinly interested.

I am pretty much expecting that when I arrive at a race this weekend, they will not have my t-shirt size as i am taking part in one of the last races of the day. If you are not an early bird and get there an hour befor the first batch, all the medium t-shirts are generally all taken up.

This also happened at the two oceans a few years back when i registered late in the afternoon to avoid the rush and had a choice of XXL or XXL. Fortunately, they reprinted shirts and posted them to us a few months later. (good on them)

So my real question is, is it a logisical issue to simply add a tick box on the online entry for what size shirt you are? Then when you arrive (no matter what time) they have your shirt size?

Is it that they print the shirts so far in advance that they have to guess and hope for the best.

I would rather have a shirt that fits than a medal at the end. I'm just saying

If this has been discussed befor then please send the link, i did a search and did not get very far.

Why does it matter. You only wear them when you work in the garden or wash the car. Don't tell me you wear them in public. :o

of course i do. I have not bought a t-shirt in about 8 years.

A lot of the canoeing races give you long sleaves, which is great for a durban winter.

when I did the argus mtb challenge, they had a tick box for the sieze of t shirt required. When you go in to register you collect your bag with your race number and you t shirt in it

its often a time thing - In KZN ROAG events the entrys close on a Wednesday and there is not enough time to still print the t-shirts in time for the event on the weekend so the organisers kinds of wing it and guess the size ratio

I always wonder why there are hundreds of XXXL left at the end. Surely if they don't know the demographic, they will err on the side of too many mediums. But this is never the case.

I use the shirts for gym and the trainer.

 They also do that for most of the major events such as the Dusi, comrades but i guess for the smaller races its a lot harder to organise.

but like someone else said, if the entries close the Wed of the event weekend, it's a bit short notice. If the cut off date gives the guys enough time to process orders and print T's, then they would have it right.

Surely, among cyclists, there's about 60% - 70% call for medium as opposed to other sizes? There are a few fatties, but most of us are reasonably sized. Aren't we? And there's nothing as ugly as a baggy t-shirt ... well, there are ugly things (like Pinarellos), but in clothing, I mean.

I'm going to try and get our sponsors to bin the T-Shirt idea and go the cloth - Euro Pro - style cap.

Maybe i was a bit harsh earlier. I got a XL and not a XXL shirt. It fits okay if you like your sleeves to go past your elbows

Hey, the 80s was a good decade. Apparently the fashions are coming back.
