I am looking at doing the ride from Oudtshoorn to Cape Town at the end of the year.

Has anyone has a route they would suggest? Looking to do about 150km per day.

I can only advise you on the part I know. Not the straightest line, but worth it.

Right from Oudtshoorn, across the most beautiful mountain pass in South Africa, the Swartberg. To a very friendly little town, Prince Albert. Then to Gamka Poort dam. A dead end road, but you can get a local to ferry you across the dam. On the other side you go over Bosluiskloof and through Seweweeks Poort, more spectacular scenery than you deserve. From Ladysmith you will have to figure it out yourself.

Me and another procreaus are planning a tour of the Klein Karoo in december. We plan on about 65km a day (with panniers) If you are interested, you can join us and then do some extra riding in the afternoon to to up to the distances you want, while we drink wine....

I have done the route from George -Oudshoorn-route 66 to Cape Town about 4 years ago with the great Western bike ride group,it was fantastic the riding and can highly recommend it,enjoy,I would'nt have mind to ride it again. We took 7 days, with one days rest in between from George to Cpt,if I remmered correctly is was about 600km's.

Haha! I am planning a similar trip for April. Just shorter distances. There is a getaway guide to the area that I have ordered. Otherwise www.route65.co.za

Hope that helps.

Mini hijack. Anyone thinking of joining my ride is welcome to pm me. Only pre-requisite: must be a seriously adventurous fun person :)
