Dogs at rest…you can see Tumbles's scars from the pit bull attack. So glad he made it through that.

Puppy progress update (sorry, I have been a little "absent")...

Romeo. The cutest boy you can imagine. He's a real mate, one of those dogs that you can take anywhere with you. He loves being with me and is quite happy to sleep behind me when I work while the other dogs play outside.

Pretty little Peaches. The kindest girl you can imagine, but with quite an explorer soul. Loves being outside and bringing pieces of trees inside to chew on. We vacuum half a vacuum cleaner full of pieces of bark out of the house 2 x / week....

Two peas in a pot. They are really an absolute pleasure, now getting to about 6 months, so the neutering and spaying is around the corner... both house trained super easily and I can count on my one hand the blapsies that we had. They now use the trapdoor and come and go as they want.

No MAJOR mishaps, except that one time when I left my R6,000 prescription Oakley glasses on the coffee table.... but that was my fault entirely ;)

 this is not nearly as sad as Eight Below. You know it's the one movie where a man is allowed to shed a tear!

Agreed! Hahahahaha!

I remember lying on a futon with my youngest son watching it. He'd seen it before. I can't remember the exact scene, but it involved a close call. Breandan started crying his eyes out. I said: "What's wrong? That had a good outcome."

"But, dad…*sob, sob*…I know what happens next…" came the reply.

There is another movie that us dudes are allowed to cry during: Marley & Me. It was awful for me. Too many parallels for me. Alaska was 13 when I had to part with him, as was Marley. I was a 40-something journo like John Grogan. That film and the book crushed me. Sobbed like never before.

Here's Alaska when he was still little:

And here's a sequence of him and Breandan, when he was still a baby:
