My Cannondale Scalpel is 10.2kg, light for a full suspension. My 'old' Trek is around 9.5kg or a little less. So I'd say under 10kg is decent for a hardtail, and under 11kg very decent for a dual.

11kg for a DS is pretty reasonable, but i was chatting to a mate on the ride this morning about it, and he says when he was in europe a month ago the guys were all racing on DS bikes weighing around 9.5 - 10kg!

All the weight saving comes at a price. Sub 11 for a DS is considered light but will be 18k plus. Merida's got a HT with minumal shock travel at 8.5kg.

You can probably get the Scott's weight from 11kg to down to 10,5kg quite easy. Then it will be more reasonable.

My Scalpel weighs in at 9,6kg. So it is possible!

Hi. Under 11kgs is really good for a DS and you need to spend quite a bit to get under this weight. To get the wight of an equivalent hardtail you can generally subtract 1kg.

The Scalpel is a bit of an unfair comparison as it has less travel and therefore less weight than "normal" DS bikes.

My Giant Anthem Advanced is about 10.5kgs (medium).

bear in mind that weight for MTBs is very dependent on wheel / tyre choice

My Scalpel has 100mm of travel at the back! Where is the unfair advantage in that??

Amoryns after riding a Scalpel nothing else is going to be the same! Ever!

4" travel? No scalpel has 4" travel. They have 67mm travel at the most, according to all the specs out there.
