Yes, but the crashed rider still needs to make it across the finish line under his own power to be classified as a finisher.

Under 3km on a flat stage the crashed rider doesn't have to across the line, unless it is the last stage.

Remember Abdoujaparov's famous crash on the Champs Elysees in 1991. He still had to make it across the line to claim the green jersey.

Ah, right, I see rule 2.6.027 was changed.

If, as the result of a duly noted fall in the last three kilometers, a rider cannot cross the finishing line, he

shall be placed last in the stage and credited with the time of the rider or riders in whose company he

was riding at the time of the accident.

So phinney would be given last on the stage, but the same time if he crossed the line in an ambulance.

Missed it yesterday but just had a look on youtube; Ouch! Probably not intentional but idiotic none the less.

Let's hope the BMC team doctors know their stuff. Poor old Phinney looks pretty banged up.

Hmm, lets not see a conspiracy behind the bush here, ;) - I personally see it as an incident, I doubt he intended to cause a crash, and even though I am sure Cav will milk it dry, he has also been involved in his own share of dubious sprinting tactics over the years - hardly a paragon of virtue.

That's what I thought when I saw the first overhead stills. Cav's caused a few horror crashes in his time. And how sanctimonious was Renshaw's "gotsenthomeforless" tweet? Really. A spontaneous change of direction versus three conscious heatbutts on a fellow rider? Come on…

Really impressed with Impey and Hunter.

Yes great riding by them both...amazing to see Impey at the front during the last couple of kilometers. It takes a hell of a lot to work for you sprinter at that speed when half the bunch of top riders in the world are just hanging on for life!!

Think Hunter got lucky yesterday or he had the right instinct....he was riding on Cavs wheel for most of the last 5km and right at the moment when Cav started to move for the sprint Robbie sort of sat up and bailed left.

Yeah Indeed, I didnt see the tweet, but sure, Renshaw, like Cav can hardly act like lambs in a slaughterhouse, they themselves have a lot to answer for.

Elia Favilli, according to reports. Arnaud Démare was the rider who went over him.

+1 - lekka to see the SA colours.....

Yeah, Robbie's got the flag on his jersey and helmet.

Always obvious when he is head down leading out the Garmin-B train.

Damn DSTV PVR. The tennis ran late so I got 9 minutes of racing and it ended with 5.6km to go. Anyone know if there will be a repeat?

Also what time and on what channel are the highlights tonight?

 - Ha, Ha, he says he has lost "a lot of weight recently" (his words) - I personally dont see it, but hey, my eyes dont focus like they used too either.!

Surely it's not fat, but muscle mass reserved for those sprinting powers.

:whistling:

You.have to cross the line to get the peleton time. Cross in the ambulance and apparently you get las place, so no justice foe Phinney as Ferrari was relegated to the back of the bunch

I read that Phinney had to get stitches to his foot, no broken bones.

He will be ready to defend the Maglia Rosa tomorrow.

Cool.

That should let Ferrari sleep a bit better...
