"It will be a very demanding transitional stage with lots of changes in rhythm. Sprinters won't stand a chance," is how NetApp Sport Director (and former maglia rosa wearer) Jens Heppner described today's stage.

Eight riders are out of the race, and all from different teams. That means that BMC, Farnese Vini, Garmin-Barracuda, Lotto Belisol, Movistar, Rabobank, RadioShack-Nissan and Vacansoleil are all one man down.

Hehe, what is this "Avio" that the one guy keeps on saying??Every time he is finished talking he says Avio or something and then the other guy starts talking...

It is "Ahoy!". It is similar to the word "Cheers". I just love the way they say some words, like "Tweetar". I know very little Spanish, enough to help myself, and I do understand a word here and there. Spanish and Italian is close in some areas, especially the numbers etc.

Awesome scenery at the finish - beautiful Italian village.

Rodriquez earned pink.

Hesjedal fought hard, but it was a climber's finish.

I was there when I was 14....and seeing it today I felt disappointed that I wasn't less of a teenager at the time so I could enjoy it more...

Spent good times in Tuscany and Umbria. Watching the RAI broadcast today brings back many good memories. Great finish on all fronts. Grazie Mille.

Frank Schleck was a big loser today, 26 or so seconds without the seconds Rodriguez gained for winning, he just literally disappeared out the back and to be fair, it was hardly a climb he should be scared of. Unless he was having a bad day, it looks to me like he is losing interest.

Otherwise all the contenders just secured their time's, Basso, Kreuziger, Scarponi all finished in the bunch, but Scarponi again showed he was in good shape by chasing down most of the early breaks on his own, solid money is still on him.

Rodriguez, well what can we say, what a brilliant rider when he is in form, pity Rabobank chose to give him a great lead out, but thats the breaks and he took full advantage, super ride.

Pozzovivo is also looking positively menacing, the little fellow has suddenly stepped up and shown he is here to race the big mountains, could be an outside chance maybe.?

Dunno who is tinier -Pozzovivo or Rodriquez...

They must weigh like 52 kgs or something.

Yeah, interesting about Schleck - he appeared threatening a stage or two ago.
