I need some help please. Energy bars!! What do you use and why? One that has no chocolate or sugar in it. One that doesn't melt in your pocket. One that actually works and helps. Been looking around and trying a few and nothing good so far. My diet makes me eat every 2-3 hours and sometimes I am on the bike and need food.

PVM bars are at the moment my best.

I like the USN protein bars but they melt.

Most other bars have a high sugar content or are just made up of stuff I don't like.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a good result?

Thanks.

Jungle oats bars, there is a light option?

Tried those ones too. No good. The chocolate melts. I do like them but in the heat they make a mess and are just all over the place. Unless they make one with no chocolate that I don't know about?

Just been reading up about Cliff bars. Where can you get them in Cape Town? Very good reviews on the net.

They make Lite bars in Nut, cranberry and citrus. They have no chocolate, they don't melt.

Also try the woolworths bars, full of nuts and dried fruit. So much tastier than the plastic bars.

 Woolies has nice variety. High protein, low GI etc.

HAHAHAHA! This can be so misconstrued!

My thoughts were as follows:

I didn't know woolworths had a bar in their stores? and, if they did, I am sure they would be full of nuts and dried fruit.

when I started out i used bars (powerbars, PVM), but found it very hard to eat, as combining chewing with breathing hard when riding(especially racing) is difficult. also sometimes the bars especially jungle energy bars would cause choking as they soak up every bit of moisture in your mouth and are difficult to swallow down. horrible.

Now I use energy gel which i have decanted into small re-sealable bottles, quick swig, dash of water after and good to go. much better than chewing energy bars.

Whasp gel comes in 600ml bottles in different flavours, and they supply small dispenser bottles with it. great stuff, no sachets or bar wrappers to throw on the floor either.

+1.

We have been using these all year and have to agree that they are the most palatable of all the bars we have tried.
