Hi, my name is Pieter. I quit for almost 8 months, went camping with mates and being the only non smoker I craked and started again. Im going on almost two boxes a day now. Friday I get a new car and I quit smoking. I bought the nicorettes and all now just getting into the mindset.

Out of interest were you doing any sport/cycling over those 8 months?

just a point of interest...since I started champix (yesterday was day 9) my avg HR dropped by 25beats on the same speed and effort level.

Resting also much better @ 70...used to be around 84...

My allergies are also not as bad, got up this morning for my usual jog, felt vibrant and good.

Quit smoking will be the best decision I've made in 28 years.

Champix is king. That stuff is really good. You must want to quit though for it to work. I used it. Now the idea is to keep away from smokers.

I was surprised at how much I "forget" to smoke. Not getting that tension that the pack is running low etc...

At this stage a pack of 20 lasts 3-4 days....and I'm handing out, so I believe I'm on the right track.

Where to buy Champix besides Dischem, who seem to be way overpriced, or should the doctor prescribe it. I'm with Discovery Medical Aid.

You need a Dr prescription. Dischem, Clicks. Our local small Pharm told me they don't stock it, and would have to go to the 2 big chains mentioned. I'm in Paulshof (Gauteng) area, not sure about others.

Yes, Discovery paid in full for it.

I just don't get this whole smoking thing.

I have asked it before, but will sommer ask it again.

Why start in the first place ?

Because it seemed cool for me when I was 15! I wasn't very sporty at school and was a bit of a rebel (expelled at 15!).

Fair enough, I can understand that, but surely it can't be like a packet of chips, once you have one chip it tastes good and you have another ?

Maybe just one of those unexplained mysteries, strange one I know. It could be put down to so many things. Same as having that first beer.

Been asking myself for 10 years....10years too many.

But, like Mojoman said, the "cool" factor, wrong crowds....to be different...ai ai....how stupid...

Ja, and dont forget it is a highly addictive drug. Relapse rates (I have read) are higher than heroin addicts!

I guess when you smoke you never notice how awful it tastes or how your clothes, car, house etc all stink!

As a non smoker now, when I go to a mates house who smokes its amazing how you can smell it a mile away!

Actually, that is exactly how it was for me. Hooked from the very first one! How do you keep teenagers from trying out even one? That is the question to ask and perhaps you have the answer since you are lucky enough never to have smoked.

Neither of my parents have ever smoked, I guess I just wanted to!
