Just be aware that we received an urgent call from a fellow from an organization he calls THE SOWETO CYCLING CLUB to tell us that a cheque for R 47 102.00 was deposited into our (Outriders) account in error and that they desperately needed the funds to pay for ????.

<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Realizing that it could be a scam we told him that we cannot refund till funds clear and that for that amount we needed full committee approval etc

As you guessed the cheque was stolen.

Disgusting,

As far as I know, there is no Soweto Cycling Club.

Although Lethabo Cycling Club, is based in Soweto.

Maybe contact them to let them know that someone is using that name, also so they don't end on the receiving end either.

You should report this to the SAP Fraud branch - even if it gets nowhere' date=' at least it should appear on the crime stats.[/quote'] It dosen't really matter as they keep 2 sets of books (like a cafe)so that the crime stats are sanitized before publishing!! If you you want to read something interesting yet totally depressing get a copy of "A Country At War With Itself" by Antony Altbeker

Old trick but surprising how many still fall for it.
Yep, we also got it at work from a guy supposed to be working for some goverment department, told us that if we need not trfr the funds in the next 5 mins then we would never see another goverment project and that he would send SARS and and and and to come and inspect our booksLOLLOLLOL

Another thing to watch out for, I've been getting an e-mail from a mysterious recruitment company asking for detailed CV's etc for a job I "applied" for.  (which obviously I never did)

Thats is another way of getting your personal info (ID numbers, work history etc for Identity fraud), now I know that I've never sent my CV out to this place, but someone else would think ah, wonderful - job opportunity and send out their personal info.

A lot of professional people including medical doctors and vets have fallen prey to such scams. Them i dont mind too much, but non profit and welfare orgs such as SPCA, welfare homes etc have also fallen victim to such scum.

i had a guy from "Telkom" phoning me, wanting our company's banking details so he can transfer money into our bank, because Telkom has "over charged" us. so dumb is he, he did not realise that it did not work the previous 3 times he phoned me.

a guy from "SARS" also tried the same thing a while ago.

Its really quite interesting that some people are so gullible,perhaps its a nice state to live in (think the best of everybody) ??? ......... but I guess I wouldnt know, been a tad sceptical,................. and I most definately subscribe to the idiom of "if it sounds too good to be true...........it is.!"

That said, I see the fraudsters are now trying "reverse psycology" as I got an e-mail recently, thanking me profusely for trying to assist a certain gentleman rescue $200,000000.00 dollars from the clutches of some obscure government, (the e-mail address was a free box from Yahoo, which shows me this gentleman is very prudent with his cash - a good sign I thought -  and he is not keen to squander $100.00 of his 200 mill annually on a payable box) - and even though it didnt work out between us, could I please forward all my details and " as a token of appreciation for just  trying to help" he is willing to pay me $950,000.00 dollars,(about R7 mill give or take a coupla 100 thousand) bucks, so naturally I couldnt refuse, I mean opportunity only knocks once.......................................... although after my wife and I discussed what we will be doing with our new found wealth, I am not quite sure it will be enough.!
