gummibear Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Have you tried any of these on?Try a few different shoes and see what are comfortable.
mojopup Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 Like your thinking Patches! Gummi - will find time to try on but my Nike's were amazing and yet have given me such agony
AndreZA Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 In that price range and cheaper then the Sidis are the Specialized MTB sport. Extremely comfortable.
P.A.K. Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Check out these. They've got some nice prices on Specialized shoes
Mojoman Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I have the Shimano MT42, they are OK (well, they are faarrrrrrr better that the shoes to used to make use of!). Good for walking in as well if you do a lot of that.I paid around R800 a few months ago.

Thumper Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 If you can find a carbon sole at that price go for it!Otherwise consider spending a few extra Rondts.
arendoog Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Mavic is well priced ,light and narrow shoes and come in half sizes .Bruce reyneke cycles sell them.I found shimano too wide and heavy.Specialized are great if you can find your size
BodyBikeFit Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 My Nike mtb shoes give me hot foot and after sani, I have decided to retire my 6yr old my olympics. Need advice on shoes in the 1k range. Not sure if lady specific will make a huge difference but suppose it should.Hot foot is not necessarily a function of the shoe, but of the support for your feet! Reason why I say that is your feet are designed for pronation. What happens while walking/running, as soon as your feet touches the ground, you roll your foot to absorb the impact (pronation). Then while you pronate your longitudinal arch elongates to store energy in your forefoot for the next step. Problem is in the cycling shoe you can't pronate, but still put the same load on your feet while walking/running. Because of the structural design of your feet your arch collapse (which has its own negative impact) but your longitudinal arch still elongates. Most of your feet’s nerves and arteries run between your tarsals and metatarsal (bones in your feet). With the elongating of the arch, it pinches those nerves and arteries; which causes the hotfoot sensation even numbness in your toes. So to conclude all you really need is adequate foot support. Specialized is one of the leaders in this field (and its standard in their shoes) so if you looking to buy new shoes, then I would recommend Specialized. Also keep in mind that my feet and yours differ completely and you need to get your feet analysed by a trained BG FIT Technician.
mojopup Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 Thanks for all the help yesterday. I ended up going to Cycle Tech yesterday just to look at shoes. I was shown a pair of Olympics which were comfy but I am a bit weary despite my trusty 6yr old shoes being Olympics (they started giving issues), was also shown a pair of Specialized Riata shoes. I whipped out credit card and now have a pretty pair of shoes with bg fitment. Cycle Tech even helped with the cleat setup. Awesome store, awesome service.
