Agreed. I think he made a mistake to play in the ICL. He could have done very well in the IPL.

I see Tsolikile is keeping for the Lions in t20 games. I wonder whats up with that, since QdK is the keeper for the national t20 and OdI teams. Perhaps to get Tsolikile ready to keep for the Australia test series  (I hope not)

Since it’s probably better to EASE into the work vibe, AND we should actually be having DAY 5 of the SA vs India test match at Newlands right now. It’s time for a pop quiz.

All questions are from one game, the famous 438 at Wanderers in 2006.

Don’t cheat with google(cricinfo). I’ll give you the team sheets to help.

Aus:Gilchrist, Katich, Ponting, Hussey, Symonds, Lee, Martyn, M Clarke, Bracken, S Clark, Lewis

SA: Smith, Dippenaar, Gibbs, de Villiers, Kallis, Boucher, Kemp, Van der Watt, Telemachus, Hall, Ntini

1)South Africa used 7 bowlers that day – who had the best economy rate?

2)Who took the most wickets for SA?

3)Who took five wickets for Australia?

4)13 wickets fell that day, Boeta Dippenaar was bowled for 1(off 7)..what type of dismissal accounted for the other 12?

5)26 sixes were hit that day – who hit the most(9)?

6)7 runs were required off the last over with 2 wickets in hand..who got out?

7)Who was the man of the match?

8)The match was the fifth in a series of five – what was the overall result?

9)The ODI series was followed immediately by a 3 test series, what was the result of that?

10)What other major sporting event took place in SA that day?

I watched the game in milnerton Medi Clinic, with my wife in her hospital bad, holding our couple of hours old son, if you want to see shock and horror, you should have seen my wife and the nurses face when I jumped up and down screaming in the maternity ward with my tiny little baby boy in my arms, he was 4 weeks prem and weighed 2,06 kgs! No wonder he is cricket befok today!

Here is some more crazy cricket trivia, which person caught Jaques Kallis out in his last game in a Proteas shirt?

This will be a great trivia question in a few years.

I presume that you think that he'll not make the ODI squad?

Whether he is the right WK or not, Christie, questions can be raised about transformation.

Whether I like it or not, as a passionate sports fan, cricket is a professional business that offers benefits and privileges.

There's a lot of heat on CSA for not fielding a black cricketer in the Test XI. With this, there is something wrong.

Makhaya was the ambassador. Lopsie is in the mix. Phangiso is showing good stuff in the shorter versions.

The short answer is he plays as a specialist bat - I don't think AB keep for his franchise either if im not mistaken.

The Lions already field black players so not sure what it has to do with transformation.

Are you saying it is wrong to force this or wrong to not have a token player in the team without merit?

The team was declared as transformed a while ago, with enough players of colour making it on merrit.

The latest politicking, if I understand correctly, is that the other colours do not count anymore, only black.

I saw some story in the media of a black fast bowler that may play for England this year. He says black players do not get opportunities in SA. It would be cool if both him an KP play for England, then they have a white and a black player who both feel that they did not get chances at home due to their race.... My question would be: who got those opportunities then?

Yeah the difference is that KP has gone on to be a fine test cricket (not a fine person albeit) the other guy isn't even getting into 1st teams in the 2nd division of England.

Perhaps he just wasn't good enough.

My issue with this type of quota approach is the effect it has no non white players who make it on merit. It would also leave question marks under any future selection which could effect players confidence

I actually think that the proteas time should be a BLUEPRINT for how the absence of quotas produces merit. We are the world's best TEST team by a country mile and the squad is the closest thing to Tutu's rainbow nation you'll see in any code.

This quest to get a black/bantu into the starting lineup is a bit silly from a cricketing point of view. There's no one bashing down the door at franchise level, but the correct strategy in development will bring a line of Makhayas that will rival the Windies attack of the 80's. It might still take another ten years, but I'm certain of this happening (much is we should really see more Kenyans in the peleton). Thami has ufortunately become the political pawn that Charl Langeveldt refused to be.

edit: KP playing for england proved nothing about opportunities in SA. If he wasn't such a pleb he would admit this.

Thami had a chance and tbh if he had the talent to make it he would have stayed in the setup after getting a glipse in the 2004. I don't see the logic in bringing in a 33 year old at this stage. By the time he adjusts to international cricket (if ever) his career will be all but over

He couldn't cut the mustard here in the Cape lest in the national team

I don't think he really got a proper crack at the job in 2004, AB was the other 'failed' keeper option without boucher and there's no denying his talent. - they used 18 players and 3 keepers in that series against England - but we'll never know (Amla, Steyn and AB all made their debuts in that series!). He should have replaced Boucher or not at all, his time has definitely passed and I'm actually starting to like AB as test keeper.
