Aaaaand then KG is recalled from IPL as a precaution after he complained of a sore back.

Is the light starting to shine brighter guys?

no problem with KG going to IPL, he's top of the pops.

His workload has NOT been managed by CSA. they've played him into the ground.

Just in this summer, with pakistan and sri lanka series:

tests 5/5

odi 9/10

t20 1/6

Some of this comes down to himself, he has always said he can bowl this much and feels fine. Let's hope this is super precautionary (he's not injured, just stiff!)

Nortje OUT - Morris IN

but how's this for spin?

Convenor of selectors Linda Zondi followed by explaining why Morris was the right replacement.

‘Chris has always been in our plans and is our next best option with the ball,’ he explained. ‘He has the pace and death-bowling skills which will be vital in the UK, and also gives us that depth as a deadly finisher with the bat.

His last ODI for Proteas was Feb 2018. he has played 8 T20i in that time period.

one thing that is different for this world cup is that "homeground" advantage has been blunted by the pitches being prepared by the ICC. This sounds like a good thing, especially since the 2023 tournament is in india and we could expect to see dustbowls if the BCCI is given free reign. but time will tell.

What we did see in the latest ODIs in England v Pakistan series, is that the pitches are good (if you're a batsman). An absolute runfest. ignoring the rained out first game, the 4 ODIs had a lowest score of 297 across the 8 innings, with rest past 340. Average run rate was just over 7.

Eng got past 340 every time and averaged 61+ per wicket.

the 4 games saw 2780 runs  with just 56 wickets falling.

England will feel that 4-0 is dominating, but they conceded 6.8 rpo.

if this is anything to go by, expect a load of batting records to be broken, despite the minnows not being at the tournament.

looking at England's team for the 5th ODI. they had a batting collapse in the middle overs, but had no tail. Curran at 10/Rashid at 11 have batting averages of 44/20. This allows them to force the pace throughout the innings. While a few of the players have not been selected, the combined ODI batting average of that lineup was 380 runs.

We're obviously playing them first up, we are going to need to do well with bat and ball!

I predict England will still be without a WC trophy after the upcoming tournament. The weight of expectation will most likely get to them. Thats just my gut feeling.

so does everyone play everyone like a league?

i just hope half the games aren't rained out. I dont think we stand a chance to be very honest (i hope im wrong).

Yes everyone will play each other once with the top 4 teams going into the semi finals.

accurate preview on the squad here today

Realistic expectation

Make no mistake, South Africa are going there to win this thing. Two-and-a-half decades of failure at the tournament have not gone down well with fans who have followed this Proteas side ever since readmission in 1991. The harsh reality, however, is that the likes of England and India look a lot stronger on paper. South Africa have gone to the World Cup as favourites before and still fallen short, and this time around they are not in that conversation. Flying under the radar could potentially work in their favour, but the Proteas will still have to win at least five of their nine group games to qualify for the semi-finals. That will be the immediate aim. After that, anything can happen.

I put R100 on them to win it at 10:1

it is REALLY worrying that the SABC has got f@#$all in place to screen this.

2007 RWC we were definitely not favourites to win, I had zero expectation... I have the same kind of feeling with this tournament, no expectation... so maybe that is what the Proteas need to be able to finally pull it through. If they don't reach semi's there will be questions asked, but more than that will be well done to the boys.

Just go out and enjoy the tournament.
