King Kallis is by far the best cricket to ever represent South Africa and it really annoys me when people question his selection. Even worse when the Poms rate Ian Botham higher than Kallis

even Nick Mallet managed to hit 3 sixes in one over off Ian Botham!

“I just tried to keep my game plan simple, and made them bowl at me,” Du Plessis said. “I tried to take it hour by hour. When I looked at it yesterday it was a long way away. AB (de Villiers) and Jacques (Kallis) really helped me a lot, I had a lot of questions for them and they kept me calm, especially in the nineties. I was going through a lot of emotions in the nineties, I had goosebumps for the longest time ever.”

Ja Faf... now finally I have forgiven you for running out AB in the last world cup. Well done and remember the job is only half done. We need to win the toss and bat for another 200 over come Friday!!

Pick Elgar in place of Rudolph. Look what one new youngster achieved... now imagine the "gemoedsbekakking" Aus will get if we have two noobs both hitting centuries!!

It would be educative, incidentally, to learn when last a Test bowler – as Lyon did – sent down 50 overs in a single innings at a cost of fractionally less than one run per over (0.98).

different players. Kallis a 3/4 batsmen who was a very decent bowler. I don't think he'd be picked as a bowler alone.

Botham was a bit more of a balanced allrounder who batted 7/8, but probably wouldn't be picked if he couldn't bowl.

now, who's better? impossible to compare properly due to the different eras they played in.

kallis average bat - bowl = 57-32 = 25

botham average bat- bowl = 33-28 = 5

sobers bat-bowl = 57- 34 = 23

imran khan = 37-22 = 15

From cricinfo

In Jacques Kallis alone, South Africa showed enough character to fill a film studio. Knowing he would have to bat for the better part of two sessions, Kallis put his hamstring injury aside for the sake of the team and Faf du Plessis, the debutant who would lean on him.

Greats of the game are remembered for things like this. Statistics and individual milestones are what people can look up and marvel at, but the memory of a wincing, limping but straight-faced Kallis doing what he can for his country is something no number can ever convey.

People who question it are better suited to watching that Castle crap 2020 bubble gum American cricket bollocks!! Kallis is a consummate TEST cricketer!!

As to the question of best ever this my elicit some debate but I would certainly have him in the top 3. My vote for #1 would have gone with Barry Richards...but hey!

There I fixed it for ya.

Ja-ja. Nice to dream, but remember one thing. We are dealing with the Ausies here. They may not have the best team on paper, but they have sheer guts and determination and a never quit attitude.

Doesn't mean I like 'em. It just means that they are tough to beat. One other thing is that Ponting may be out and one thing Aus have is depth. They may also have a new face or two. That's another thing about cricket: It aint over till it's over!

Friday will just be the start, and barring rain, bad light, granny's headache and other match interruptions, the game may run the full five days. Then we will know.

And while we're about it, maybe someone can come up with someone to replace Fatty.

Dont let your personal feelings about a particular player get in the way of recognising that he's probably the best captain and opener that SA has ever produced. He keeps on scoring big runs and dispite his apparent shortcomings in his technique the oposition still spends most of their team talks and planning around getting him out. If anything we should look for a replacement for Alvero. He averages 41 (the lowest average in our top 5).

Team selection's gonna be interesting.

Will King Kallis get the nod to JUST BAT?

Is The Vern fit enough? SA need him to exploit that WACA pitch.

Will Robbie P come in to provide some all-rounder spin/bat?

Will Rory K get the nod, despite another poor run of no-balls (20 or so in the 2nd Test)?

It's a crunch game.

Alviro

Smith

Amla

De Villiers

Faf

Elgar

McClaren

Peterson

Philander

Morkel

Steyn

Interesting there, selector.

Both Mclaren and Elgar in the mix.

You're correct of course. He is better than Keppler and especially after Keppler returned to SA as captain and opening bat. And then of course we had Mrs. Hudson, who also had some good averages and went backwards from there.

I guess maybe I should just stop watching cricket because it seems that when I do, Fatty falls over cheap. Having said that, I agree that he has talent. I just never seem to see him on a good day.

And I wonder if Clarkie will make another double ton come Friday. I seriously think we should have klapped the Ausies in both games so far instead of it being the other way around. Doesn't matter that the scoreline showed a draw, we were comprehensively beaten on both counts, only just managing to save a draw.

Then again, I think that's a step in the right direction. Our previous records will show spectacular collapses and not even being able to manage a draw.

I think we are going to show up big time for the last test...Steyn and Amla to show the Ausies why they are the best in he world at the moment!

My 2 cents on Kallis....I think they should start letting him just bat.We can get 2 more good years from him that way and any team in the world would pick him as a specialist no 4.

I know it is about more than the stats but he has a very real chance to go past Ponting on the runs list and he needs 6 more hundreds to go past Tendulkar on the most hundreds. If you look at the top 3 runs scorers of all time he will be second then on the list with the highest avg of the 3 and the most hundreds!!

F&$k anybody that then don't want to pick him in their top 5 batsmen of all time...

In Fact I recon if you have not scored at least 10000 runs you should not be on any list..it is easy for a talented guy to have a good 3 years and avg 60 plus but try and score runs for over 10 years or more like Kallis,Ponting and Tendulkar.....that is what makes a great!!
