Firstly, @Tarmac, I have a lot of respect for you and riders of the Aurecon team and well done with your result. Finishing in 5h33 without any riders from the outside and all of you subvets is a great achievement.

I just want to clear what you said below:

Never did any Brothers Sport rider feed from a vehicle. We did however have permission, as did all the top teams requesting this, to feed with bags from feeders giving the bags to riders. There is clearly a big misunderstanding here in terms of feeding from a moving vehicle which did not happen.

If the teams being passed on the road (probably the teams that lodged the complaint as well) have fallen back out of the Brothers Sport slipstream, it would not have been such a big disruption and ''safety issue'' for them at all.

Re the Matlosana riders in the team... there's more to it than only results and each team's prorogative to spent their budget to the benefit of the team and the sponsor.

Nevertheless, sad that all the complaints (apparently hundreds of them from teams all over) could not be resolved before prizegiving.

Thanks for the feedback well done on your ride

We were a social team sponsored by Vodacom. A huge thank you to them for the sponsorship at such short notice. I'll upload our team pics later in the week.

We completed the DC in 10hrs 20min, bringing all 12 riders over the finish line. The experience and enjoyment thereof is what mattered. Not the time. As captain I paced the slowest rider to the finsish. For 8 riders this was there very 1st Double Century. To give you an idea, the slowest rider does a 6hr 21min Argus.

Our team members do not know each other and this event, plus the 10 training rides have allowed new friendships and bonds to be forged.

Thanks so much to the organisers of the event. The bag and socks this year has been appreciated. To the town of Swellendam for welcoming all the cyclists, it's appreciated. To the medics and marshalls, I felt so safe having you all around.

The scenery and beauty of the landscape through which we cycle is amazing.

My most memorable experience: While cycling up Tradouw I caught the sight of a waterfall cascading over a cave.

Nice one!! Make s me want to "get up off the sofa" for a race longer than 4 hours...

Can someone please explain what the "disqualification" issue is that is causing all the friction? Is it that the teams didn;t stop to eat or that they stopped and took on musettes?

Logically it will take one amateur team taking out one serious team by doing something similar from a moving car, and all hell will break loose... just stop, surely? Or am I over-simplifying??

If I remember correctly, last year the pro teams could feed on the go, i.e. from a moving vehicle.

AFAIK this year they said that all teams were to stop in front of the vehicle and feed. What they might have done is had two or so domestique's that stopped in front of the vehicle, took on musette's, and then caught the team and gave out food. To me that is actually quite clever and skillful if you can pull it off without causing harm to other participants.

Either someone feels that they narrowly escaped harm, feel hard done by that they couldn't do it, or I have the wrong end of the stick....

Is this the thread where we line up to guess at why DC results have been contested?

Why no poll yet?

a) social teams panicked by reckless use of musettes, collective memory of LA takedown stokes culture of fear

B) Brothers Sport did not use the regulation picnic blanket for their 2nd feed

c) Daikin riders on cellphones call in chopper for gu airdrop

d) Anderson Transport obstruct the start with 18 wheeler 'support vehicle'

so what are you doing next year, round about november ?

the finish time was 5 hrs something .. we can be home for lunch.

Doubt it, Brothers had to fly in half the Matlosana team to help them as it is... Feeding from the car the way they did can save minutes, and that could be enough to take them off the podium had they stopped.

The First team to finish with 6 of their own team members from regular racing hasn't even been mentioned here: Aurecon. No Pro's and All of them Subvets. came in 4th.

Yeh well done Clive Seebregts

Howdy!

I am Thor, God of Thundering Along, not Testikles, Lord of Seven or Eight Hour rides! :)

But I am tempted... if I can get up the sponsorship for the liposuction and a decent, patient team I figure I could get to 7 hours. Knowing a little of what it takes to get to 5:30, I'm afraid I have to decline your early lunch...

Polls are only useful for those common occasions when people have a) foresight, B) insight, and c) hindsight...

I guess it's all about everyone's safety in the end... the organisers need to (try) protect the people who aren't as fast or skillful. Is there a reason the top teams go off in the middle?

Why does there always have to be 2 sets of rules, one for the TOP teams and one for the rest....and why should the funriders drop out off your slipstream? Are they not worthy to be there or is there a rule?

No - last year you couldn't feed from the vehicle either, however, like last year, if you were in a top team, you could request to feed without stopping (ie - grab a musette) .

In future, I suggest they have a bike marshal for each top team - to enforce the rules and look for people doing bad things. Then we won't have to wait on the results and there'll be no he said she said allegations...
