Except for a few spokes I've only ever broken a handleneck (gooseneck) on my BMX when I was 12. Made a huge jump and as I landed it just snapped. It was the days before helmets and gloves and had to walk the 3km home with bike in hand.

Hmmm... I think I've jinxed myself with this thread. This morning, as I left a was-red-forever-now-green traffic light, something went *thunk*. Not a loud noice, but a definite dullish sound. Originating from somewhere around the BB-area. I felt a slight movement in my pedal. I rode another 5km without issues, but will pay close attention to the bike before I get on it again later this afternoon...

My cousin managed to do this to his brand new Ultegra cranks today!  Power clearly runs in the family...

Anyone know how the hell this could happen? Cranks or BB?  Which one died?  Seems very strange to me that it could go wrong so badly.

Should have seen how funny it looked when he tried to pedalLOL.  Looked like he was trying to hop like a rabbit on his bike!

Nothing serious...someone just did a #*# job when they installed the cranks.
