This race is on Sunday the 15th not Monday the 9th as shown above

Yeah, correct.

My screen shows 15 Jan and pre-entries closing on 09 Jan.

ok so despite the reservations of some hubbers, me and a couple of mates have entered the Stars in Training category for the Summer League.

Although we are "in training" we have definitely missed the stardom boat as we are all in our mid-30s and seeded G/H by PPA :P

Nevertheless it will be interesting to experience the racing side rather than just the fastest-time side to these rides.

Is anyone else entered for this Cat?

Not me.... not enough moola to motivate the entry.... for most of the races, it's 201Km from my house to the start - s/suburbs - and back. It's not just going to cost for the entry for league, but the transport and sundries makes summer league a bit of an impossibility.

Enjoy it though. I have heard some negative aspects of the Rising Start league BUT, from what I gather, it is because there was no strategy for the race. As explained to me, the race was single guys i.e. no teams, and they would just form attack after attach up the hills and in the end, the goal was to ride as many guys off the bunch as possible. There was no fluidity to the race.

If you and your mates could form a coalition and ride as a 'team' with a race strategy, your rise to Sub-vets or vets will be a good one. Plan the attack strategy, look after one another in the pace line, have a 'break point' (if your buddy is not feeling well, a decision would need to be made to drop him or be dropped by the bunch).

Edit: spotted a typo

I agree, racing is more fun when you know the other rider's strengths and guys work together in a team format.

I am also entered, maybe we can get a few people together and actually work out a strategy to get proper racing happening? Just an idea....

Other than the 3 routes advertised, whatcha mean, Zac.A?

Well PPA says 108, 80 and 50, Pro classic newsletter said 105, 72 and 50...

Oh, okay.

Wonder what the real deal is on the race distance.

I emailed the Cycle Tours guy Eulogy du Plessis and he said he is trying to drum up support for a team format for the Stars Cat, but that its a relatively new Cat with riders of different ages etc etc. Teams must be a minimum of 3 riders and wearing same kit.

My mates and I will be riding in team kit and sure we'll be working together and happy to work with anyone else who wants to. I'm curious as to what happened in the Spring and last Summers races to generate the negative views. Surely if it was attack after attack the Stars bunch would have gone slower and been caught by the PPA group starting behind, no? At which point it would be a case of riding in that bunch and trying to keep tabs on the other league riders?

Having ridden a few times at Killarney last year I really enjoy the racing side, but obviously also in the back of our minds is still doing a good time to improve seedings and ultimately qualify for sub-vets.

Well if you cant attack with keep your pace...main thing is to keep the pace and whatever happens follow from there, but no point slacking down and attack and so on....I will be in Brothers Sport kit and will work together with whoever :)

If you could get couple of guys to work together im sure it will change things in this cat. Im very eager to hear your opinion if the racing in this cat is any different from the racing you did in your seeded group. If your seeding was a D to F for example you will be better off in your seeded group.

Its allot of money so i really hope you and your friends enjoy it. At end of the day it is what you make of it anyway. Good luck bud! Kick some ass
