What a wonderful event. A big thimbs up to the organisers and even bigger thumbs up to all the participants who started it. To those that didn't - you certainly missed out. Well done to all the finishers.

Highlight: Finishing our first trans baviaans in 17:11 with no mechanicals or major issues

Low: None that I can really think of right now - perhaps just the mud after CP 7 and the final river crossing but it was all part of the race.

I really falso want to mention that the development team on their old bikes, using takkies/superga's and makeshift backpacks should get a warm round of applause gets a huge round of applause and respect from our team. I dont think I could manage that.

First one done! Phew.... Really loved this ride, and I think I'll be back for more next year!

Lowlight would be taking so long, ~20:30, and falling over in the one river :cursing:

Highlight was getting our whole team across the line

Out of interrest, how did the sealskinz work through all the water crossings? I had "traditional" mohair mountain biking socks on with a comnination of toe caps. Whilst it did not keep the water out, it kept me fairly warm and the only time my toes went really cold was after the crossing at Hadleigh.

I used sealskinz, had 2 pairs, and I will not be using them again. The were fine for the crossings where we were ankle deep, or the crossings where you could ride through, but anything more and they were a nightmare, water going inside the sock, and staying there for hours. Would rather have just had normal socks and suffered with a bit of cold for a while after the crossings while they dried.

I really wasn't expecting that many river crossings, or should I say that many deep river crossings, will have to think of something for next year. Maybe waterproof stockings???? Although I think the likely solution is a warm cup of HTFU...

My 1st Trans Baviaans turned into disaster en-route to Bergplaas. Light fading fast...and my partner started cramping badly to a point of unwalkable and our 16hr goal crumbled! Lost 3hrs on that mountain trying to get him going. Managed to get to Bergplaas checkpoint at 11pm. Got assigned to a team that had no time goal and proved frustrating at times when all they wanted to do was camp around a fire?? I thought i would go insane with the waiting!....so finally road into the finish in 22hrs!!! Longest night of my life!....... Big congratulations to the top riders in times that were super insane!! as well as big up to all the others who got to the finish! Looking for photo's from the event...anybody know of photographers that were there??

ActionPhoto took the 'official' photo's, will probably be up this week as they have already created the event on their page. Well done on finishing, I know what 22hrs feels like, did that last year when we had loads of mechanicals and falls.

They were brilliant! The one guy had a backpack on that was probably a 5 year old girls backpack.Remember passing them as the one guys jockey broke.Does anybody know if they finished?

Another highlight was about 20km before Hadleigh their was this little boy standing alone next to the road at about 21:00 in the middle of nowhere clapping his little hands and you could here this kid is tired but he still cheered us on HOU BENE HOU.....HOU BENE HOU

The support the whole route was excellent and thanks to everyone making it an event I will never forget!

I saw them at the finish in Jeffereys Bay and they had finishers medals on. This was at about 4 am.

Didn't read the race booklet. Consider myself a Trans vet, we mos know where the finish is. Right. Paid the price for that one.

I had the same approach - why bother with the race briefing or the booklet. I know the route. And what are there - something like 5 turns in the whole race?

It was only with 15 minutes before the boxes had to be in when someone mumbled something about the finish being at a new venue. Mad panic trying that damn book.
