How fast can i go over a speed bump.

I am slowly getting into this whole roadie thing as i felt riding on the road with my mountain bike was just not on.

Normally when i approached a speed hump (the big type that force you to slow down in your car to about 20km/hr) i would ramp it with my MTB.

Now when i hit it with my road bike it feels like i am going to break something. Is 30km/hr too fast or am i just being paranoid or are road bikes stronger than they feel.

or bunny hop - that's what I do... or as el capitan sez, shift your weight onto the back wheel more - the front will lift with ease - oh, and standing up with 'soft knees' does soften the jolt to the saddle area

Of course you can mate, for the humps with a table top shape just hop high enough to land gently on top and roll off again. 60km/h + easy.

The pro's ride in big bunches and they regularly hop pavements and other traffic furniture when roads narrow, there's a roundabout or whatever

Exactly, just jump before the speed bump, and land going down the back of it. The tricky part is to learn to vary the timing of your jump according to your speed.

Yeah, for sure! It's a hop, not a drop off. And trust me - those frames are tested to far higher stresses than a bunny hop will bring to the table. Just make it smooth...

Haha, thanks. Its not the frame i am worried about, its the little skinny tyres pumped to 7bar that i am concerned about. ^_^

Its quite a change coming from 26 x 2.2 with 100mm travel :D

The bunny hop was particularly handy while descending the maritime hill at 60km this past weekend.

Yes, I found that too, got me back to the front of the race by Black Hill
