Forgive me, but what relevence is there about him being a cyclist?

Why can t he just be a regular perv?

When we all discussed that mollie monster (sp?) we didnt label him first by his hobbies etc..

The article implies he's a public figure, well-known in connection to cycling. The Modimolle monster was unknown before his offence, so his hobbies/profession didn't have much relevance.

There're plenty of articles that have, in the past, referred to well-known rugby/soccer/cricket players. Without their prowess in those sports, they wouldn't be public figures and we probably wouldn't even have heard about the stories.

I wouldn't have a clue who it is but he is 50 years old...... that is all I can gather.

Also agree with Wayne, WTF does it have to do with the sport / hobby he has?

Call him for the person he is, not the sport he does or did for that matter.

Get your name in lights, and be ready to be grilled, that is what the world loves.

I agree with Wayne & kie to a point (with the fact that it is a cyclist..)...If this bloke was a well known cyclist...then is is relevant (because that is what Joe Public will know him from...) else, it is just another sick mofo that needs to be removed from society!

Same goes for the well known tennis doubles champ that is now facing sexual harrassment (actually rape !) charges from a number of women he had molested as young girls (under his coaching guidance).

Its obvious the might/will mention the sport. Whenever a rugby or cricket players steps out of line the first thing they mention is the team they play for... and then whatever offence they committed.

It seems he got to the girl through cycling connections. Its not like saying because he's a cyclist he's a perv; though i'm sure many are (present company excepted :) ).

I am pleased to read she says "Its not about the money" because she is unlikely to get much, if any.!

Were she in the USA she would likely get $30 million never mind R3 million, even if she lost the case, but here in good old South Africa our courts place very little value on pain and suffering. I doubt she will get much, if anything.

Anyway, she makes really only one serious allegation, sex at 14 even if it was consensual is still Statutory Rape in SA, although I dont know how she intends proving this. The other allegations are irrelevant in my mind, isolating her from her friends etc, although its probable it had a detrimental effect on her, unless he forceably kept her away, its not illegal, its great "fluff" for the media and to "plump" her case, but I cant see the courts reading much into it.

Sometimes, I also wonder, all this went on what 15 odd years ago, her life is a mess because of decisions she freely made so lets sue someone and lay all the blame on them for my issues.

Dont get me wrong, Statutory rape is a serious offence and if he is guilty, then he must face the music, but I cant help feeling the rest is just a way to hopefully increase her bank balance, it seldom takes so long to realize you have issues.

I must respectfully disagree. As one that was sexually abused as a child, I can testify to how one can repress memories, emotions, which process changes your behaviour without an understanding of why you are a certain way.
