Absolutely - I couldn't give a toss where I finish cos I'm really not good enough to worry. But a 2min difference after taking into account the adjusted winners time and the Beta thing they use for seeding can be 4-5% on your weighted seeding. I'm just lucky cos I really think that H group is where I belong at the moment, cos although at times yesterday I thought we were going too slowly as a group, I managed to climb the last hill quickly for a change and had a nice ride, including some leading, and could never keep up with the Hels-goats!

RE remembering the numbers I think I was riding passed Wannabe as he commented about the little N fella and we all saw the number!

Right onThor! 1 guy one 1 bunch in each bunch and 1 guy got the fastest time. The rest is, as they say, details.

In order of importance:

1) not being injured and broken

2) good time

3) have fun

4) not having car broken into

...

...

999) racing for the win

Alphabet racing is very serious stuff - finishing 243rd rather than 242nd is hugely embarrassing. All those hours spent training, practicing how to wheel suck and avoid the front of the bunch would have been wasted if you hadn't emailed them. That and the fact that being classified as a Star is something you probably don't want on you palmarès.

The front front guys of A-D stayed away the whole day ;)

Yip - I see on Racetec that 5 guys from the A-D bunch stayed away, but I think we did pretty well to catch the rest of them (and gave a lot of people a free ride).

Nice meeting you Denise! - I for one gutted myself over that 80km stretch where we chased the guys down.

Overall a very enjoyable ride

I spent the weekend in Stellenbosch visiting my daughter. I am certain that I did not want to be those backmarkers who were still riding after midday. The temperature was 36 deg C.

I was one of those....first long road ride since the Argus. Woke up at 3 a.m with a sore throat but decided to ride anyway, I had psyched myself for the ride. Maybe not my brightest moment. Finished at around 11:30. Polar gave maximum temperature on the road as 43 °C. Then I still needed to cycle home after the event (at around 12:30). Fortunately I had lots of beer around the house to speed up recovery. The sore throat has since resolved itself into full blown tonsilitis. Hope it clears before the Bay City.

Yes I was one of the guys the Race tec people waved through; even after we had explained that our times would be wrong. As in cheatinf wrong. They said not to worry, we still get a "block' starting time for the C group.

Anyway that is not the case, and have just emailed Racetec to rectify the result. Respect to ya all.

`yep, I heard you trying to explain to the dude and the reply that he gave you didn't make sense to me either. I just mentioned this to highlight where things might have gone wrong. At least you tried to rectify his mistake for him :-)

No you didnt, a few of us crossed the mats well ahead of some other star riders, you probably caught the people that were dropped

If that is the case, my mistake.

I started in F-G and started my polar 30s before and stopped it after had crossed the mats by about 50m and got 2:40 (racetec gives 2:42?)

Stig, I started in that group too - what kit were you wearing?

@Wannabe: It looks like they fixed the time of several riders for Sunday's race. Yours is now at 2h51.

Good thing. Feeling a lot better now, feels as if my effort is properly rewarded. :D

Glad we dropped all the wheelsuckers from the A-D bunch after Hellz. Got more than a decent workout for a Sun morn in the end.

Would have loved to have been there!

Can't really call anyone before Hels a wheelsucker. They only appeared after Hels. It was that small climb past Fair View that got rid of the passengers, as well as the Fisantekraal climb.

Phew! I'm glad there was actually someone matching that description riding along, thought I was hallucinating :D
