That's me in my first Argus. One at ... what's it called, Ocean View? (A misnomer, like Lavendar Hill.) One coming out of Noordhoek. Another somewhere on Chappies. Now I carry Nocorettes and just use the thought of a ciggie as a good motivation to finish faster (not that I do).

good for you, and next time you fly past in the opposite direction while riding through salt river: wave.

no no, you can actually see the ocean from there if you stood on the roof of your house.

now lavender hill, there is no hill and (unless lavender is a streetword for some narcotics) not much in the way of plants there either.

down the road you had what they called Vrygrond....it got changed to the more appropriate Seawinds recently.

Flying past? Bwahahaha! Then it has to be someone else, Nuge. You're the one who does the flying.

But I didn't wave? Sorry 'bout that! I usually try to at least do a nod, or a "Morning!", or a flap of the hand ... unless I see some **** pedestrian about to do the dumb things that **** pedestrians do best.

Got married in 2009 and got back from honeymoon in Thailand 5 days before the race. Rode a 3:20something from A but it was hard. Hard isn't even beginning to describe how *** it was

some would say that is training too

Jan 2009.....decided that i would like to do the Argus before i was 50. So in Feb, bought an old fixer-upper bike, did a substitution entry , repaired the bike , tested it around the block and did the argus in 7hrs...that time includes stopping for 4 massages - not bad in my opinion for someone who last cycled when he was at school in 1977 :)

For my first Argus in 2000 i bought a R399 Makro MTB bike beginning January, training consisted of a few 10km neighborhood rides and 2 longer rides of 35km and 60km. The 60 km ride took me around 3 hours so i banked on riding 5 hours for the Argus. This was the first time they included Ou Kaapse weg in the route and close on 7 hours later i wobbled over the end.
