Bonking is a great way to burn off excess brain cells and non-vital organs that just slow you down - things like your appendix, spleen, tonsils and whatnot.

You're either doing it wrong, or the ladies love you. I'm not sure which.

Hahahahaa..... Beautiful!!! Yeah,if you are naturally lean and have a fast metabolism you will need to replenish your glycogen stores sooner that a "fatter" person BUT it is advisable to use a "race juice" that also has protien in it as your body will start feeding off your muscle if you reserves are low! Try a low GI with a protien, B max had a great one called Enduro Max but I don't know if its still available.........

i've been trying riding an hour before breakfast once a week to see if it'll make any difference (not bonking though - it's just too early in the day and our kid wakes up before us)

so far no difference - i'm still always hungry and haven't lost any more than normal.

will keep you posted if i suddenly turn skeletal though

Have a coffee with no sugar before you ride. It will take a week to 10 days on average - if you do regular sessions - and your body will light a fire under those fat stores.

Mates of mine did a study at SSISA where they had to ride multiple 200k sessions on stationary bikes whilst subsisting on high-fat diets. The results showed their systems adapting to the high fat diet over a period of weeks and at the end of the study they had actually lost weight. Not suggesting we all eat lard on toast for breakfast - but today's food is typically full of refined sugars and starch. Which means there's no motivation for your body to burn that fat.

Tarmac can tell you more if he is about today.
