I did the 35km Babas yesterday --

The ride, (race) started well - got into a group - just off the first pack who steamed away into the mud..

I was going well, and since this is my first decent - ride - race, since my recovery and bio kineticist -- sessions - I was feeling strong -- and at 18km -- i heard -- a crack and watched my seat post and saddle pass me --

Strange and luckyas i was not sitting on my saddle when the carbon seat post failed ---

I was now stranded at half way -- i could ride back - without a post/saddle or push on the same way..

I pushed on -- the next two "hills" and 18km were the longest hardest I've ever riden -- I could not relax,

My legs burnt so much at the end i was numb--- but I had to finish -- i walked every time i felt a cramp loom -

I know have great respect for, saddles --- and the need for these ------

Strangly - today im still able to walk ----

Why didn't you just loosen the seatpost clamp, take out the stump and reinsert the portion thats leftm and then tighten again.

At least you would have had a seat to sit on occasionally, even though it would have looked like a BMX.

Unhappy. I saw you a few km from the end and you didn't look pleased with life!

You finished, and that counts. Turns out there were quite a few DNF's yesterday.

[....stunned silence...] :whistling:

I hope this was a case of not having the right tools to extract the broken part - rather than a [face-palm] "why didn't I think of that..." :w00t:

Ps - kudos on finishing!

COULD not get the piece left out.... still cant --- its stuck quite tight and the break is splintered -- i did try --------

Stunned silence - nope just working ---

Ever considered what your signature is saying when it comes to choosing a seat post? ;) Why stick a carbon seatpost in an alu frame in the first place! Still good to hear that you pushed until the end, and finished your race.

Jeez that sucks. I had a seatpost bottle break on me once, and bent another as well. When the bolt broke I put an empty waterbottle over it, got me home.

What seatpost was it? At the rate that I go through Ali seatpost I would like to stay clear of that one.

Oh, and to get it out, try pulling it out from the bottom up by hooking it from below. I used a screw driver that had its head welded on at a 90 degree angle. Worked a charm.

haha! welcome to the world of jump, trials, slopestyle and DH bikes.

Yes, technically my DH and 4X bike have saddles, and I do sit on them... but 90% of the pedalling done is standing up.

But I think this has made me stronger (and probably damaged my knees too  ). Now that I have an AM bike with a dropper seatpost, I find myself raising it and sitting and it feels wonderful (except for the lack of control part). I guess you don't really notice the difference until you've pedalled standing for quite some time!

So yeah, I feel your pain... but maybe fun races should be held... dropped saddle races, only 15km or so... more teck than pedally... I think it could be rather educational and interesting

I learnt alot about - the power of anger -- it got me most of the way...

I usually dont do carbon on MTB - i got the bike "used" with the post and was too lazy and broke to buy the Thompson stuff which i do loooove -- Ive also got to replace the wheels -- ive done the shock - fork, brakes - saddle -- so now i spose its Thompson time --

I did DH - In the Cape until 2000 -- but going "Moer" fast down hill and pinching the bike between your legs for control --- is fun ======

This ride was - up hill -- round a hill, frikken up another hill , down a small hill --- through the gates of hell, back somewhere --- not really the kinda fun - I remember downhill to be --

But its all good and - makes MTB what it is --- every ride a new challenge and ---- No Limits - apply
