Does one need split times? I mean, for a sub-3, average 37km/h. Adjust for a different target time.

You only really need "the 2 towards the end" me thinks. If you're still within range at those points you'll want to know about it. But yes, keep "average speed" on your monitor somewhere and you'll be fine.

Split times are pretty useful for those further back in the field, who are trying to get a PB which is extending well past four hours and where you are riding pretty much your own race - no group. If you are riding in the first 15 seeded groups or so your time is pretty much dictated by the pace of the bunch and you cant do a whole. For those shooting for a sub three, which is realistically only doable for most guys up to group D / E, the only thing the split calculator will tell you is if you are on target, it only becomes meaningful past Simons Town anyway.

I am aiming to do a 3h30 from U group. Last year only the first 45 guys from U group rode under 3h30. So I will probably have to be a pace setter to hit that target. The split times are very useful

Good luck, big guy...

It's a leka challenge, that one.

Just race smartly. The clock will take care of itself.
