Argus SMS progress line - timing matt locations?

Recommended Posts

I see there's an SMS line for our family/friends to get progress updates as you cross the intermediate timing matts. Sounds quite neat, especially the last matt as it'll give them an idea what time to look at the finish.

I might be being dumb here, but only thing I can't see on their site is where the matts are. Anyone found this info?

Seem to remember top of Smitswinkel usually has one, and I think maybe Suikerbosse or around there. Don't remember where I saw the others though - Boyes or Edinburgh drive come to mind.

maybe top of Edinburgh.... can't remember.

Think there was one on Chappies rather than Suikerbossie.

Def one in Smitswinkle / Cape Point area

The matts aren't on the site in case people try cheat.

Yeah - as I was looking on the site, I figured they probably wouldn't put them up for that reason. Kinda makes sense, I guess there'd always be 1 or 2 people that might be tempted, even though it'd make no sense to me why you would.

All good - have told my g/f that the 4th SMS should be around an hour from the finish, or maybe a bit less (assuming good weather, no punctures or mishaps etc etc)

That's about the reaction I normally get to anything cycling related ... this year though she's suddenly coming to the finish with our 3yr old. Nice surprise change from the usual

4 mats will probably be

start matt to indicate you started

top of smitswinkel

top of chappies

and when you pass the finish line.

The reason for the sms is that people no where you are in the race what will the use be if they dont sms people you sarted and that you finished

Cool man! I have been able to get her to come with for most races this past season (unless she is really not interested) but now that a cycling buddy has a girlfriend that enjoys supporting him at race, they see us off and then go for coffee and chat

Edit: typo

4 Sms's

I would make it:

1. The Start ("so and so has just started the 2012 Argus, everybody say Whoopla!")

2. Just before Kommetjie where we turn right

3. Top of Chappies

4. Your Finish time

Well done, my wife (who had no interest in cycling since I know her) asked me yesterday: "I think it's time you get me a bike. I like full suspension and XT components"...

They do tend to surprise...
