Hey guys

Currently have a set of Giant P-R2's which came standard on my bike and are apparently 'weighing it down' according to the experts out there.

Anyone have a set of those and know the weight? Need to take off the cassette to see the weight which is a hassle.

I'm trying to work out the cost/benefit of a new set here and also what is considered light for a set of wheels?

Not sure what yours weigh but you can get wheels that weigh 776gr for the set. They made by Extralite and cost $2500.They should be about 1.2 kilo lighter than what you have.

Nice! a bit more than I would budget for, always good to dream though :)

Weigh them with the cassette and then deduct the weight of the cassette. You can easily get the cassette's weight of the internet. Most cassettes are around 300g for a 105 level.

Great idea, should have figured that one :) Thanks a mil

My old (now training) Shimano wheels that came with Merida were about 1900g. The Easton's I got are shade under 1500g I think. Have broken a spoke on the Easton's though, so I'd question their durability until they've gone some more KMs without further issues.

I reckon next time I'm probably get my LBS (William's) to build me up a set of Mavic Open Pros, that way I can get quick service if I have issues. I did some weight calcs, and a 28 spoke rear and 24 spoke front with Dura Ace hubs are only a bit heavier than the Easton's, are similar price, and should be quite a bit sturdier. Having said that, the Easton's roll really nicely - so hopefully they'll do me quite a bit longer before then.

must be a lank 'powerful' guy ..... never broken spokes on mine, not strong just a 'beeg' guy!

You must actually ride your road bike  spokes don't break from the bike standing around the house :whistling:

I get up to 800 watts every ride on mine, and sometimes on 1000, and they're still perfect.
