I'm 1.84m tall and riding a 19" hardtail mtb. riding with a 400mm seat post fully extended to its limit. When I bought the bike the sales person said a Large frame will suit me perfectly. I'm on my 2nd seat post thats bent, other than that the bike is perfect for me.

Should I go for an XL frame, which will have advantages and disadvantages for my length or should I keep on buying seat posts?

Other than the seat post, are you comfortable on the large frame? 1.84m is a border line height between a large and XL frame and also depends on the brand. If the bike feels small, get and XL and a short stem.

Absolutely true, its depends on the brand.

i'm 1,84, riding a 20", an 21" will be too big I think, setup is NB, but if you are maxing your seatpost, you might have to look into getting a 20" frame, if you decide to do so, measure your seattube and toptube length, it differs from brand to brand, and see what suits you best

1.82 is borderline between Medium and Large - @ 1.84 you can never ride a XL, it would be madness.

What might be more interesting is to tell us the make/model of 19" bike you are on now, so that we can study the geometry... maybe there is something funky with your current frame...

I can bet my left nut a Large will be PERFECT for you in most good frames...

Mate with all the conflicting advice you're likely to get on this forum I'd strongly suggest you get yourself fitted at a LBS (ask around, or search other threads here for good options) or get one of those Body Geometry or similar fits done. Alternately go the cheap route and fit yourself using an online fitting tool (www.wrenchscience.com I found to be pretty good). The online ones at least give you a decent baseline.

I'm 1.83 with an 89cm inseam so very close to you and I've always ridden a large, but we're often borderline M/L, so I've generally deliberated big time before taking the plunge, so it sure as hell is not cut & dried by your height and inseam, especially with all the funky designs mountain bikes come out with these days. For example my hardtail is 19" and my FS is 21.5" and they're both larges - go figure!

Your problem may also be as simple as having your seat too high, so spend the money on the fit and save on the seatposts.

Dude! Your seat post is on max, simple, frame is too small, seat post is out too much and absorbing all the flex..... Snap!! I have the same problem!!

What make seatposts have you been buying?

Alternatively work on your core, and learn to take weight on your legs when negotiating bumps and dips?

one was a rav-x and the other was a ryder. cheap ones but thats all I could afford at the time. sorted my core out already and worked on my technique. my bike just doesnt like me, put too much strain on it

Not entirely true. It's all about your inseam measurement. I'm 1.8m tall, but with an inseam of 92cm, I was borderline L or XL acc to LBS setup. I decided on a L as I have a shorter upper body reach,= 90mm stem.
