I've got an entry for the half, but didn't train at all (did one run the week after the Argus, thats it). Never done a running race in my life.

Is it possible to finish within the cut-off without any training? My ego wouldn't survive missing the cut-off.

Managed to finish in 2:27, but I can bearly walk today! Don't think I'll do it again. I've never felt like this after cycling (even after cycling 230km in the TB I was fine the next day).

Surely it can't be good to f@#k up your knees like this in the long run (no pun intended)?

Spare a thought for those on the 56 km route this morning.

:-)

It's pouring from the heavens here in Cape Town...

If the Runner CAN keep a Tempo, Body stay WARM. But once You Slow down/ Walk, Body freezes Up. Forget about those Bicycle Marshals, most were Freezing. Pace upfront is allways Up & Down, difficult to Keep Warm!

@ Polo - hahaha, sorry, I laughed at your post. Well done!!! Well you beat my mate by a good 20min and he trained for it.

Ya, I hate running. I love feeling nice pain after a good session of exercising but pain from running is a whole other ball game. I ran for 5 min on the treadmill the other morning...had shin splints for days! I'll stick to walking on high incline.

BUT I wouldn't mind adding 2oceans under my belt. 2014 goal.

Well done to all.

Hmph!

Gert Thys back in the mix after his ban.

4th place and 6 mins off the pace - 1st south African finisher for men in the Ultra.

It was flippin freezing riding in the rain ! They should have called it the Three Oceans. I was riding in front of the leading male runners and when we came into Kalk Bay the heavens opened up. It was impossible to keep warm riding at such a slow pace, for cycling that is.

In the first 10Km's or so, I was amazed at the amount of stupid, arrogant early morning motorists trying to ride down the road toward the mass of blue lights and cars, and us, all leading the front of the marathon across the breadth of the road. One guy didn't even have his lights on, so we indicated for him to pull over to the side, which he wasn't happy about until he saw the traffic cop on the bike next to us. My mate on a Mtb next to me said to him "... and switch your f#!@%!ng lights on too moron !" :D The traffic cop had a good laugh at that.

The leading runners pack pretty much stayed together for most of the race until Chappies inevitably started to split things up, and then the Valley of Death through Hout Bay and up the 'Nek filtered it down some more. The finish line was a very welcome sight for us. We had to filter off the course at UCT just before the finish line, and were greeted by the organisers with ... a nice cold coke  , which we politely declined in favour of finding a coffee shop nearby, and quickly ! I think I spent more energy shivering than from riding.

Kudo's and respect to all those runners that took part in those trying conditions !

Congrats to all that finished the ultra and half.

I loved the running in the rain, until the finish, then just standing and looking for my wife, I was freezing.

Only thing I didn’t like and appreciate, were all those black bags we had to jump over, at the start. Do those people honestly expect The City to now pick that up?

The new route was awesome too.

Great event, now for the S.A.D.

was lined up quite nicely for shots of the leaders in muizenberg, until one of these motorists got forced off the road right in front of my line of view.

here's the second bunch, 50m back.post-1830-0-46817200-1334060130.jpg

well done to all who took on the conditions.
