I have a 9 speed xt crank on my bike ( together with the rest of the 9 speed xt components )

Now I want to put a 2012 Xt crank on - Do they only come in 10 speed?

Will i need to replace the FD,cassete, chain, shifters to 10 speed ?

OR - should I just buy last years 9 speed xt again....

Cheers

But is the actual teeth on the chainrings not further apart on the 10 speed than the 9 speed and the chain's spacing too?

My understanding is no, the chain is just 'narrower' ..... but as always I may (small chance ;) ) be wrong!

Just curious but why do you want a 10 speed crank?

I have a 9 speed xt (as below ) that i F'ed up a bit while riding in Sabie.

Now i want to replace it - but i love the new xt's look ( but it only comes in 10 speed)

I like the look of the new 10 speed but my XT 9 speed is still in brand new condition,so going to hang on to it a little longer.

ok... I guess i'll just replace the 9 speed with 9 speed 2011 again

Phone Coolheat - they will give you a straight answer.

Edit: the "horizontal" spacing for the derailleur is the same - I run a 9spd XT crank with 10spd chainrings and have no changing issues.

Apart from the crankarm being badly scratched - the big chainring got bent also.

I took the crank of and put a fsa on so long. - now i want xt again

So why don't you get a new chain ring. They quite cheap.

Scratches on your cranks give it character :)
