Yip ... will work on a road bike too.Cranks are genrally not speed specific. Not too sure what you mean with the compact crank question.Compact and Standard chainrings cannot replace each other.Complete cranksets can difinitely but your chain may also need attention.

I found this out shortly after getting my road bike. It came with standard cranks and being used to MTB gearing, I was rather keen to go compact. You can't just change the chain rings. You need to change the entire crank. I decided to just HTFU.
