The beginning of this week I bought a DSTV drifta - my first experience of DSTV. I bought it specially to watch the epic. First day was great – then I could not get a signal anywhere (my home and office are in coverage zones). I moaned and complained and they asked if I had coverage, what the weather was like, is there coverage outside the house etc etc. Then I said it must be the device so they gave me a new one. Now I have the new one and it does not work either but now find out there is no signal in Pretoria at the moment, and DSTV says they should sort it by the 4th April!! Their departments clearly don’t speak to each other. I wasted my money and am sad to miss all the excitement – not the same just to read about it.

Basically all you are missing is a half-hour highlights package every evening at 22h00 ie coverage would have been disappointing even if your dstv worked.

Was thinking about the coverage last night, the premier mountain biking event in the world and the best South African Television can do is a half hour hilites package - piss poor performance I think

Having to read about it all I have to admit some of the pics on the hub have been amazing!

better coverage here:

The day's footage is usually up by dinner time. It is quite one sided coverage, but with the racing being so one sided at the moment you are getting the bits that actually matters.

The live streaming camera at the finish line is also quite handy.

Thanks - you all make me feel a little better about wasting my money :-)

Wonder if they will give a refund - lol

Dont worry

Anyone get the latest software update on the hd pvr 2p decoder ? Ever since the update my decoder keeps resetting itself :cursing: the new font size looks pathetic.

+1 YES!

I thought someone had messed with settings and spent half an hour fiddling aspect ratios etc before I saw that there had been a download at 1am previous morning... font is tiny but doesn't really bother me, but also had a few random resets and also sound disappearing on HD channels...

Do you even have any idea of what goes into making a 26 min highlight package for a tv show? Do you even know how hard it is to film with 7 cameras, download all the footage of more than 20 hours a day, sort it all out, edit it. sound mix and do a voice over and then still prep it to be sent to germany, only then to be sent back to SA for broadcast? I dont think you do so keep your PISS POOR comments for something you have an idea about, Even if you worked in tv which clearly you dont, there is no one in the county who do daily highlights of any sporting event.

And no i dont work for the company that does the show but i did for 3 years and i have filmed the epic for the last 4 years.

Thanks for the reply, I was so upset just googled now and there seem to be plenty glitches with the new software, I hope they fix it ASAP cause if im watching Paris-roubaix and it goes off then there's big trouble.

so did I after seeing your post...

Lots more over here http://forum.dstv.co...t=15236&page=30

Edit - on the positive side i see they have finally added a search function on the tv guide...

A call for popcorn, and so soon into the topic!!

I read the crit about the package and had to giggle.

As with most televised multi-day events, getting the highlights together is really an epic event of its own, but quality of content is another story.

Thats a bit rough.....anyway, you are incorrect. There are daily highlights being done every day for cricket and rugby, football etc here in RSA so it is and can be done

I hear what you are saying JB, but the way the specialized videos are made and uploaded live even before the TV production is up is quite cool. (I suspect that you may have a hand in this. If so, thumbs up). We all sit at our desks watching the live streaming of the finish line cam every day and wonder why they don't simply put 3 or 4 cameras on the route and use the other cameras to cover the last 15 minutes and broadcast that live. They could also simply use most of that footage for the evening show later on and cut down on editing time that way.

You're the authority here and I know that it may not be that simple, but surely there must be a better and quicker way to at least let us see the last bit of racing either live or via the Epic website say 1 or 2 hours afterwards.
