Epic 2012, How does it rate?

Because soon I will tire of telling everyone that I have done the Epic. I will also paint the epic theme on my car and get 3 epic tattoos (one on the back of my neck, one on my chest and one on my calf).

Does anyone know if there is an Epic tie that I can buy and wear to work?

Yah dude, your first few posts were actually witty, but now you really are coming across sarcastic and snide with it.

I am just jealous cause I dont think I will ever be able to do the Epic.

Haha ... yeah, it is an expensive exercise. If you do get the opportunity to do it though, you wont regret it. For most it honestly does change many things, for the positive.

Unfortunately it isn't cheap, even with us having an entry and some support, my partner and I probably still spent 8k odd out of our own pockets, which isn't a vast amount but not exactly pocket change either.

We were very very fortunate and honestly once again, if you can manage to get around to it you will value every moment. :)

Not only money.... it takes a special kind of person ability wise to do it. I know my limits and the epic is beyond me. Like I said, if I win the Lotto and can afford to cycle full time for 6 months I will consider it!!

Not really. I was 48yrs old and did an Epic with 3 weeks notice off a 12 hour a week training base. It is more mental than physical

Epic Schmepic

i'm one of the few mtbers around who has NOT done the Epic. I'm not against doing it in principle, but have 39 900 reasons to do other things with my week off thank you.

No dude, there are a number of well priced good Epic training programs out there for the likes of us mere more mortals who need to work as well as ride/train.

The mental aspect far outweighs the physical fitness required. Or as one Epic 'regular' said, it's 90% mental, the other 10% is mental. :D

Look at Bonny Swanepoel, this year would have been her 9th, eight on the same bike! Major props.

Get them lotto cards out ...

And thats great too :) .... In essence I'd have to agree in general, nothing wrong with giving it a bash either.

Don't know how some folk go to do it each year, but fair play to them.

Ja but you have obviosuly a good base and muscle memory. I think for a "beginner" MTB'er like myself I should rather make the Epic a 36 month project as such should I want to do it.

3 years are a good time to build up to a race like this and also you cannot develop MTB skills overnight. Experience is needed...

It will be the same as "how do you know if someone went to Bishops?........don't worry he will tell you." :w00t:

As I explained to a friend who can't do epic as he wants to redo the bathroom at home

In tens years time imagine pulling out your photo album and telling everyone how fantastic your batthroom is and showing them the tiles and the plumber working there and how you love that shower head

Fark that I will rather spend my money on experiences that I will treasure the rest of my life
