I'm still sorted for 3x9 at the moment... but they sure look good.

You can pre-order on ebay US $295.00 + $39.50 shipping

Estimated Delivery within 36 - 40 business days

What about bar-ends with those custom lock ons?

Gripshift yes - absolutely - but 3 x 10, 3 x 9 and 3 x 8 are all still available, even if they are not as good as the new xx ones, they are still very good - no need to tie a gripshift decision to 2 x 10 though.

That said - I will be putting the 2 x 10 gripshift on my 29er (already running 2 x 10) as soon as I can get a set in country - can't wait to get the underbar shifters off, having been riding gripshift for 18 years, I really don't like the underbar shifters anymore.

I was thinking about the exact same thing. Guess who has and enjoys bar-ends? Me for one ...

I've been itching to go 2 x 10 for a over a year now, but didn't want to move off my trusty XO Gripshifts. I was also thinking about the bar end issue. Lets see if SRAM comes up with a grip / bar end combo for their shifters in the near future.

I am also wondering what the differences are on the X0 and XX 2 x 10 shifters respectively. Usually X0 is about half the price of XX.

The diffs between X0 and XX is probably the materials used in the internals - the XX being less injection moulded plastic, but that's just speculation at this point. Or maybe Titanium vs Al ?

What is the attraction of a grip shift? Is it just a "feel" thing? Or are there benefits in terms of maintenance , weight, precision , etc?

Its just personal choice mostly. Pretty much maintenance free. Grips rubbers can be replace from time to time. Less prone to mud infestation.

I've been using them for something like 20 years now EEK

How do you find them in wet weather or when your hands sweat. I have been thinking about this since Sabie in Feb - I sweated like a stuck pig and was even battling with my regular Sram shifters.

You can "trim" your FD at will, so no chain rub. What I enjoys most is that you can "dump" your gears on the rear by just twisting the grip, and the same with upshifts. What I'm trying to say is that you do not have to push / pull a lever several times to quickly change up or down. Just twist the grip, and you can change a few gears up or down in one go. Very handy if you are caught in the wrong gear and must quickly change a few gears up or down.

They seem to have done away with this on the later X0, only three discrete 3 clicks, but still works well.

I have had a problem getting replacement parts, like the indicator windows. Got the part nos, but local agents / various lbs not responsive. Replacement Twister rubbers okay (from CRC)

yah, love my XO gripshifts. will get the new XO gripshiftsfor my 2x10 as soon as they are available. XX is just waaaay overpriced for what you get, weight wise etc. compared to XO the extra cost takes some justification.

The trim feature was done away with on the newer 3x9 front XO gripshift models, a pity becayse it was nice to be able to get rid of the front deraileur rattle/chain rub.

Ordered indicator windows last week and Cape Cycle Systems told my LBS that they have stock, so hopefully I will be sorted by end of next week. Will let you know. The indicator windows go for about R80 each at the LBS and they are 8.95GBP at online shops, so it is cheaper to go local.

Another bike shop wanted me to pay R196 for one inicator window, because they said that they will have to courier the part from CT to PE and that I will have to cover the courier cost. I found it quite ridiculous, as there are many deliveries to LBS's in PE from Cape Town each week.

I am riding XO Gripshifts in 2 x 9 and was eagerly awaiting the XX version. But at 2K for shifters, 2500 for a cassette and another 2500 for a rear derailer I dont think so...

I can take that cash and upgrade a host of other bits, and come out way lighter. Besides I really don't need 1 more gear.
