Have a look here - contact Dr I Weinberg 0114853236

Stay clear from fusion -

Hmmmmmm, I think one should leave that decision to the medical professionals. (fusions)

However, I agree, Dr Weinberg did all my fusions and he is superb surgeon, conservative, meticulous and compassionate, without him, I believe I would have been in a wheel chair.

Dr Weinberg's partner Dr Hanhle did a disc replacement for me about 4 years ago. I have not had one day of back pain since. I am cycling as much as I like with no problems. I have done stage races etc afterwards.

My recommendation would be to at least get an opinion whether this is not an option.

I currently run up to 10km a day, no problems at all. I think if the Maddnes overtakes me again I will do Comrades again without any back trouble.

Indeed, I have run Comrades and Two Oceans with my lumbar and cervical fusions, no problem at all.

Hi Guys, just got "released" from highcare, had the fusion op! All 3 specialists involved said it went well and that it was the only choice I had! L5 disc had 4 rupture points,2 going straight into my spinal tissue causing severe damage, without the op,it was just time till a wheel chair! So,S1/L4/L5 have had disc removal and fusion! And the first thing I checked was if I could feel and move my feet, toes and legs, and not a drop of pain!!!! Dr and Pysio say,as long as I rest on my back for the next 6 weeks with minmal movement and the bones fuse well, and I don't over do it,running, cycling and any non contact sport is a big Yes! I'd love to show you all the screws and pins X rays but I don't know how to load it from a BB! So spinnekop, get used to the idea of of those 63 cm Merckx's hurting you again!!!!!! Hahhahahaaa, thanks guys!

Tehcnology has advanced leaps and bounds, the days where it was a 50/50 op is apparently over. Look at Bob Skinstad, he had discs fused after an injury, was out for a couple of months and then started playing again. I might have to go get an op due to an old judo injury thats steadily worsening, not my fav idea but i have made peace with the fact that it will happen someday.

Just thought I'd give a little feed back! I am now 10 days post op,I have none of the nerve pain and cramping I had prior the op in my legs and hips! I have to be in this body brace for 6 weeks and in bed on my back ,no sitting at all but the Dr did say I have to walk a little everyday to keep my muscles warm and subtle! So far,so good! So far I do not regret this op at all,and really advise anyone that has or is in a severe similar situation as I was in to consider it!

Great news, as I said I too had a lumbar fusion on two levels and have never regretted it either. It took a long time to recover but maybe at 46 I was a bit older but yeah, I would be in a wheelchair today had I not had it done.
