Hi Hubbers.

Am looking to eventually upgrade to a DS 29er frame. I currently have a 2011 Giant XTC1 29er that would "transplanted" onto one of these framesets.

Would appreciate any comments regarding what would be the better pusrchase etc.

I prefer the look of the Salsa - the Superlight always has a funny looking rear triangle.

That being said - the Spearfish will prob be a little cheaper that the SC - talk to Ngala24.

However - if you are looking to do more free-ride - I think the SC might be better suited.

Salsa will prob be a bit lighter.

Isn't there an overlap with the Santa Cruz Tallboy alu and the Superlight 29 Alu ?

I would love to support SA by getting the PYGA, but I will have to transplant my 100mm Fox and the PYGA is designed for 120mm.

Although I dont look like the normal marathon tipe, it will be the mayority of the events that I will compete in. So not really looking for Freeride but more XC/Trail where these two frame would fit in perfectly.

As far as i understand the Super is a single pivot and the Tallboy is the VPP model. They have similar travel specs and geo. The Super a bit ligthter due to less hardware and also less costly to maintain for the same reason.

The Spearfish is probably 60% cheaper than a Superlight. That is a huge gap. The Spearfish is probably one of the best value 29er DS framesets out there.. Very difficult to come by, unless you are a dwarf...

I got the Spearfish.......I'm blown away by it's performance, the rear triangle makes the bike very stiff and I couldn't be happier. That said if you want to be doing trail riding, drop offs etc I'd say no. This bike is only for going fast. Mine at race weight is 11.6kg including pedals. f you wanna know what's on it then ask.

consider yourself asked and asked to include pics!

Sram carbon crank

X9 shifters, XO r/d X9 f/d (Gripshift on its way)

Sram carbon 9rs brakes (not the best but they do the job)

Hope pro2 exo Hubs

Crest wheels

Crankbros pedals

It has Geax Seguero front and Crossmarx rear tyres (the lighter ones)

KCNC stem and seatpost (I'm 77kg)

Rockshock Sid xx fork

Specialised carbon flat bars

Sella saddle.

On the start line it weighs 11.68kg.

Of the two on your list I'd go with the Salsa. It will be better value for money and from what I've read sounds like quite a hoot to ride. Not a fan of the SC's look.

Quite liberal use of the term "Freeride" there. Pyga will be more Trail focused than the other two. The Salsa (based on reviews and geo) somewhere in the middle and the SL most XC focused.
