Hi Guys

I see all the talk about more technical trails. We are working on it, and once we have finalised the route, so that there will be no oncoming traffic, we shall begin to really step up the difficulty.

For those of you that have been to the park, you would have noticed the rocky outcrop right at the beginning of the trail, i am going to put a serious tech course there. Probably only be about 2 to 3 km but should be great fun, and claim some skin in the process.

I did see that there was a post regarding the rocky outcrop in the north of the park, please stay well away from that koppie as it contains the only indigenous fauna and flora left. It is highly eco sensitive, and anyone riding their will be thrown out, and dealt with by Heartland. It states in the house rules and indemnity that all users abide by the rules to stick to pre-determined routes/trails. We cut them around certain areas for specific and environmental reasons.

Lastly, I would like to open the trails for a night ride on the first weekend of June which is the 2nd. It co-incides with a full-moon which would be quite cool, and shed a little light on the trails.

Before doing this, i need to first find out how many people would be keen to ride and would come through.

Let me know asap, so I can organise.

will be there x 3 people

Night ride next week?

Obviously these things take time, and it's very cool to have a place nearby to ride, but for me the trails are a bit too easy. Compared to Thaba trails and Groenklooif/Fountains, Modderfontein is quite easy, more Northern Farms than Howick.

I'd also recommend improving the route markings as you are coming down after the first climb, where you veer off to the right and go on the singletrack that runs alongside the jeep track uphill. We missed the turn the first time we rode and landed up doing less than 20kms.

Other than that, looking forward to some new technical routes... best of luck.

How is the trail riding now? I know it was soft to begin with but is it hard, smooth and fast now?

TIA

Considering the fact that the trails are completely boring, and the most technical sections are those that you have to dodge horse crap, at R40, Central Park Modderfontein is exceptionally overpriced.

Rietvlei is almost half the price, at R25, and considerably more interesting. The spruit is even more interesting to ride, and that's free.

So unless that rocky outcrop opens up to ride on, or the price actually reflects the value, I won't be back, and definitely will not be recommending this place to anyone.

Can't believe the need to bash this place .. War..whateva .. If ur so bored with a decent 33km plus ride .. Stay away . . The rest of us who live around here really appreciate and enjoy the Modderfontein ride .. We need more but with crappy negative .. Uncalled for posts .. We stop the guys who can build these great rides from going the extra mile for all of us Who enjoy mtb... Modderontein is a great venue and keeps getting better ..

Did the long route yesterday and I think it is a awsome route for a novice like me and my friend did it for the first time. Apart from the fact that it is close to home it was a very nice ride.

I think it's an awesome venue. The trails are challenging enough to keep it interesting but easy enough for novices. The terrain gives the legs and lungs a decent workout and there is a nice mix of track.

It's easy to get a nice 50km ride in if you do a lap of the yelow and a lap of the green with some yellow sections thrown in....

Keep up the good work guys!

We rode this trail yesterday and it was flipping brilliant. Trails were awesome and they will definitely start to flow better once they have been ridden in more.

A season pass similar to NF would be great with dicounted prices (i.e 20 clicks for R20 a go)

Really really awesome riding.

Well done to Ricky, Grant and co.
