Sea Otter doesn't disappoint - new model from Giant.

"Anthem X Advanced 29er"

You could probably lose more weight by using a smaller multitool, but the carbon'd be a stiffer ride. I'm more interested in whether they've fiddled with the frame, e.g. rear chainstays, which supposedly some think could do with shortening. And tubeless wheels instead of this tubeless-ready stuff.

Its a bit Fugly :whistling:

Truly. I've been ignoring the Anthems partly because they really look arb, but every review I read says they're great. At a given price point I'd rather have a bike that looks a bit more pedestrian but rides well.

Interesting that they have switched to RockShox (rear) and OverDrive 2 1-1/4 to 1-1/2in tapered steerer.

And they seem to have phased out Shimano

Yeah, it's been coming for a while. Now go and try and buy an aftermarket stem for that damn thing.

Yupp, they did it to the road bikes

It doesn't seem that many manufactureres have followed suit.

Ritchey supplies Canyon with theirs, but they aren't available to the public.

(There is a hot trade on Ebay in Europe)

Specialized has one, but its meant to have a spacer that can be rotated to adjust the angle

and I think Syntace has one.

I don't think any of these are available here, so its a major PITA to change your stem.

Syntace dropped their model if I remember correct. The second you run an adapter or spacer the claimed stiffness gains go out the window in any case. No use.

If you used the Specialized or Syntace stem on the 1 1/4 steerer, you take out the spacer, so that loss of stiffness isnt an issue.

Pro is supposed to be releasing theirs at some stage, as are Ritchey.

But they havent yet...

Comming of an anthem i have to say they are great bikes. But in my opinion more of trail type bike than a purebred racing DS. That said she served me well over many trails and many races. The old girl shall be missed. Definitly one of the best 26" bikes out there, Havent riddent the 29'ers yet, but being an anthem they should be equally as good.

Behold ratings. Other reviews generally agree, with some moaning about the long rear chainstays, or relatively arb wheels. But as a package, gimme.

Wow i had no idea the anthem 29er was so highly rated, i always thought they were fairly enrty level 29ers, i had a 26 inch anthem and it was an awesome bike i just never liked the looked of the 29er. Guess i was wrong

There was some initial back log/ slow release of the stems as all stems manufactured went on the complete bikes but Giant SA has some lengths, headsets, spacers etc in stock and more arriving in the next few weeks.
