Trek 8500 is about 1350 grams and most are between 1300-1500 grams.

What size are you looking for?

Looking at a 17.5 or 18

The mongoose meteore is a 29 er

has to be 26 but the weight is not bad so far looks like trek could be

the lightest ali frame one can get.

I have a mongoose meteore elite, medium is about 1400g

+1 Mongoose stopped making Carbon bikes because their Alloy frames are so light

Mine is still 26'er, think northcliff cycles had some 'old' meteore frames. Really awesome frame!

Do you think they might still have them really need to sort this new bike out soon

I have a mongoose meteore team and its really light. Lighter than a zaskar which was my alternative.

If you're looking for an XC Alu hardtail then this is the one i'd recommend.

It really is an excellent alu frame and you can get one for cheap. There were a couple on here for sale a while back and they may not have gone so check out the classified section. I think I may have got Northcliff's last one.

Mongoose Meteore Team/Elite Alu best bet for sub 10kg build. Geometry & handling also excellent.

Sad i got rid of mine.

As a school lightie I used to ride a Giant XTC. Think it weighrd like 1.2 or something.

I thrashed it for 6years before it cracked.

Only had one bike to race XC and fool around with on the local DH and dual courses.

I rackon that is the hilux of frames. If you can still source a 26version your little man will be A for Away.
