I broke a spoke for the 3rd time in 2 weeks this morning on my mtb. dt swiss 4450 rims. Can I train 2 more days without causing any major damage? 2 shorter rides planned for tmr and wednesday....

From the sounds of it your wheel lost its integrity... either complete rebuild or even beter - get a custom wheelset from Ruan Deyzel - Spokeworks - worth the bucks! Had the same problem with spokes continously breaking in the end the custom wheelset solved it - no hassles even after 2years of hard riding.

time for a new wheel build to replace those spokes and once they all off the rim can be checked too.

its gonna keep breaking spokes so no point just replacing one , one , one .

and no not a cool idea to keep training with a broken one.

if you havent fallen on a rock and broken your spoke, then usually its the nipples that shear through metal fatigue from usage. this often happens with alloy nipples. brass nipples are heavier but last longer. once your second spoke breaks, get all the nipples changed to brass, as the rest should start breaking in the near future.

Its irrelevant if its a custom wheelset, or a factory built one.

Yes you can. As long as the wheel is still straightish.

I have been riding my stumpjumper with DT swiss rims with a missing spoke for about 3 months.

Will get it done on the next full service.

I started breaking spokes after my bike had done about 100 km :cursing: After breaking about ten, I decided a wheel rebuild is in order....have not had any issues after that. The LBS replaced all the spokes.

(The bike was new, but I bought it from a shop that closed down, so there was no warranty as such, except for the frame)

Its got a small buckle in, but nothing to major. will give it a go tmr. rebuild seems to be the answer..dont want this problem to persist...almost time for sani2c.....

Nipples don't break in shear. There is no shear force on them after they have been tightened.

Brass is an alloy of zinc and copper. Aluminium is aluminium.

American Classic has a patent for a long-life aluminium nipple with good durability (but like all alu nipples, poor build properties).
