Would any of you want to stand in one spot for 6-8hours with nothing to do but hold a cardboard up proclaiming your plight or for that matter helping people in and out of their parking spots?

I would not.

agree. not trying to say its a honest days work but sun/heat/wind/cold day in and out and then remember youve got to be on the job all day every day, not for the money but to keep your "spot". personally i tend to support the ones who non obnoxiousely add some value like take junk from my car, sell a pen or something.

Imagine beggars debating on their mobile devices via a forum whether they'd like nice paper pushing jobs or would prefer to stand in the rain and take abuse because it's easier and more profitable.

Sorry but I don’t tip these chaps. (I do feel sorry for them, could have been me or you standing there, but for the grace of God..)

I know times are hectic but;

1. I pay insurance if something should happen to my car.

2. I've passed my K53 and can park my car. (Does he have a valid drivers licence?)

This is what happened...

My wife and I went out one eve. Parked the Landy in parking where there some of these "security guards" watching over cars.

After our wonderful eve we can back and paid this chap some money. I walked around my Landy just to find the spare missing. +/- 8.5k.

org 18" mag wheel

Asked the guard what happened and he said he didn’t see anything, told him this is impossible since he was here, and then he said that there was a bakkie that parked behind my Landy for a while and then left.

He didn’t "investigate/ go and look" what so ever. Didn’t ask them anything nor take reg of their car.

Don’t see any need for them.

I would love to know the stats. Have vehicle thefts etc decreased since these car guards have sprung up. I normally tip them for reason other than feeling sorry for them.

I spoke to an old lady who did the PE Central shift. She told me that on a good night, she could get R600.

Yeah, we can chuckle, but I was recently in Paris and just outside my hotel was, I assumed, a homeless fella, he had spread out a nice blanket and he had a very well looked after dog with him. I came in one afternoon and he was sitting texting on his mobile, he had a tin of Coke next to him a plastic bag full of food and his dog had a huge bone.

They looked pretty content to me, so I did some inquiring, the concierge told me he is a regular during the summer months, he never asks for money but Parisians look after him well, giving him food and clothes, they feed and look after his dog and he makes enough money in donations to have a mobile phone and buy almost any day to day requirement he needs. Indeed I often saw woman stopping by and chatting to him, they would drop money in his hat, bring him food etc, but I never saw him solicit money - ever.!
