I've been struggling to find decent mtb at any of the LBS's around jhb. Liked the look of the hoss stuff but couldnt find my size. Fox is a bit too pricey. Generally the LBS's are short on range or just tights!

Any suggestions? Am I going to have to go with CRC?

Just remember, outrageous import duties on clothing. IIRC its like VAT and 30% duties

First Ascent also has decent baggies.

You should find it at Sportsman's Warehouse or their own stores.

+1 on Indola though.

Due South sell their own brand of looser type tops that I really like. You can sometimes find Endura kit as well at some shops - good quality

+1 on the Indola - two pairs of shorts for 3 plus years and going strong

Ya I know, but I was having a look at CRC last night and if you add the duties and tax on it comes about the same as what you would pay here?

So how do baggies fair for a long endurance ride vs a bib short that stays in place and does not shift around ... I have been curious about this?

How long is a long endurance ride? Did TB and Hell&Back both with baggies and had no problems...

Guess it could be a problem on 6 or 8 day stage rides, but I would not know that answer...

Yeah, their prices are sweet, especially if you can get them with good discount. If it comes to the same it might be worth it. Personally, I don't buy clothing I've not tried on. There are few things worse than ill-fitting gear. :cursing: If you know your exact size for that particular brand AND the particular style, then importing is definitely an option.

But the whole paragraph is actually moot really - if you found one to try on and it costs the same as imported one, why import?

If you decide to get it from CRC, wait for the 40 - 50 % off sales, then it works out cheap compared to local, even with duties, shipping and VAT added on. I like baggies from Endura.

I wear bib shorts alone for very long or consecutive day rides. There is just so much less material that can rub and chafe. For shorter rides with my trail and all mountain group, I wear baggies over my bibs. In a crash my expensive bibs are then protected by the hardier baggies.

8hrs plus

Personally...any ride longer that ~40kms...I'll opt for "normal" (i.e non baggies) and add some chamoix cream to that!!

Never had a problem and on multi stage events - stick with bib shorts....
