Have been struggling with back pain last couple of months so no riding and end up at the physio regulary due to back spasms.

Went for plates and dr confirmed scoliosis and some other problems so now i need to find somebody good that won't cut be open unless it is the last resort.

Have one or 2 names, but thought id ask the hubbers...

Anybody good? Anybody to avoid?

Thanks peoples!

I just had my wrist done by Dr. Andrew Barrow in Suninghill. He specialises in wrists and hands though. I hear his dad is regarded as one of the best general orthopedic surgeons around.

I have been through back surgery but can't recommend the Dr as he emmigrated years ago.

Depending on your age I dont know there is much they can do for scoliosis without cutting. Or at least that's what I was told by my orthopedic and neuro surgeon before I had a fusion. I have to say cutting is not always bad, and sometimes its the only real option, sometimes all the other stuff just prolongs the inevitable. I have two fusions one lumbar and one cervical, before I was constantly in pain, today I am pain free and 100% healed and recovered.

See a good doc you trust and go from there. Good luck.

Ortho's make money from Cutting,

Go and see a chiro first

Have tried 2 chiro on and of over the last 3 years and then switched to physio, both helped but problems has been more serious lately. In hindsight i should have gone to a doctor much earlier , but only went now when pain was jot manageable. Thanks for advice though.

Think his name was Dr Theron at Meulmed in Pretoria... was referred to him by a couple of people when I had issues and have never been back- in htis case a good thing. Sent me to some fancy clinic called DBC which sorted me out no problem with no cutting. I would actually recommend DBC as well they were super professional and specialize in backs and have clinics in a couple of places with super fancy machines...

Bergbok, read my "lumbar fusion" story in this same topic, just a page or so earlier! You need to see a spine specialist and neuro specialist! I too had your problem, curved spine and dusc degeneration with years of on/off pain,I too saw plenty Chiro and pysio's,all helped to a degree until my L5/L4/S1 discs ruptured!!!! Then you are f......!! I had a emergency fusion by a brilliant DR,at first I was **** scared, its now 5 weeks later and I am 200% better than I was...... Best bit is,the physio ordered me to ride, she gave me a letter!!!!! Gimme a SMS @ 0832339674 and I'll tell you my story and give you the Specialists number! I don't regret the op for a moment!! Jay!
