Hi guys

Hope this hasnt been covered, but I couldn't find anything on it.

So I am looking at building a SS. Now the question is should I build a 26" or 29er SS.

I don't want to start yet another 26 vs 29 thread but what are the practical issues I need to look at? I Currently ride a 29er and love it but I also don't mind riding a 26", I just prefer the 29er.

Any advice, preferably from experience and not just some 29" hate message would be greatly appreciated.

If you enjoy the 29 er format then stick to it.

Just near in mind your ratios will be a little different on the 29er vs the 26er in that it would need to be a ratio lighter.

But experiment with the ratios according to your terrain.

yep 32x16 on a 26" = 32x18 on a 29",

Stick with what you know/works for you!

Having ridden both 26 and 29 as singles, they are great for different purposes. My 26 is awesome on a tight technical track (spend a lot of time on the PMB world cup course... albeit on a lightly lighter gear :whistling: ), but for things like out rides and classics etc (ie longer rides), the 29er would be my preference.

So depending on what kind of riding you are planning to do on the SS, choose accordingly... or just get both and sell the geared bike

it's all personal bud! ride what YOU want .

I race a 29er HT

and my SS is a 26 HT

dig them both , spend more time on the 26 though , gearing 33/15.

What SS do you have Iron? , is it the one you smoked the 94.7 on..

Much as I hate the 650b format that would be my recommendation... My reason? Exclusivity! Sadly 29ers singles are like BMW "Individuals" these days - every arsehole has one!!

Haha, you guys crack me up.

Save your money for beer. Buy a cheeep 26er HT and convert it and have fun instead of worrying what bike you have with what wheels and what badge is on it. Just ride your bike.

Oh ok, on a serious note - if you already have a 29er and love it, get a 29er SS. Although you may find that your geared bike will start gathering dust in the garage.......

I am also going SS soon but it will be a 26er due to the fact the training bike is that. I can see the bennefit of a 29er SS especially when on the longer flatter roads where you would be spinning like mad on the SS to get good speed. I would imagine the 29er helps generate a bit more pace on the flats......

This is determined by your legs :whistling:

Thanks for the feedback guys. From what you are saying it looks like its the same with geared bikes, do it based on your preference. No real issue with 26 vs 29 on SS.
