Hi guys

Looking at the next upgrade to my wheels.

Thinking either XT Brakes with the ice-tech rotors or xt (maybe xtr) shifters.

Currently have SLX brakes and shifters, I have a 10 speed setup, XT rear Derailer and XTR front.

comment/need advise?

The brakes no doubt, they are unbelievable, stop like nothing I have ever experienced. On that note what year slx are you running? The 2012 groupset is( so i have seen said in a few reviews) is basically the same as the xt with a few extra grams.

Hi there

2011 SLX, as was part of Merida 1-20 500D, 2011 model.

So get the idea most ppl will be pointing me to brakes,

Anyone want to be more specific exactly which one's I should add to the basket?

Ok specifically as follows:

Deor xt bl-m785 brake lever and calipers

Sm-rt81 rotors,203mm front and 180 back.

Just remember you will need new shimano spacers to move from the 160/180mm the bike comes with.

So

I'm leaning towards:

currently sitting With 180mm discs front and rear, Do I have to stay with those or can I increase? thinking the ice-tech rotors?

No need for 180 go with 160mm.I am heavy and i have not had any problems with my brakes.I did try 180mm on the front and my back wheel lifted a few times.

I weigh 95kg .160mm plenty stopping power

Am I correct in thinking though, going with a dif rotor size (at the rear) does imply having some sort of adapter to move the caliper housing to fit the smaller 160mm rotor.

Might be easier, and result in a more stiffer configuration to leave the caliper attached to the original frame points.

Most frames are standard 160 and you need a adapter to go bigger.
