Disc brakes on road bikes-Colnago

Is this new or been in the pipeline for a while? Doesn't look to shabby at all. Always thought disc brakes look crap on MTB's

There are some things that belong on mountain bikes.

I don't think the UCI permit them on road bikes at the moment, but its on the cards.

 

Main advantage is decent braking on descents without cooking rims (so I have read) ... and wet weather braking.

 

If not, why not?

As long as it doesn't screw the road bike's weight up completely.

Like they said - wheels will be completely redesigned in the future (if this sticks) as no more braking surface

is required on them.

My question is: Why don't they integrate a mountain bike style disc brake system into the middle of the fork? Thus one could use ceramic pads and still use the road bike rim as the contact surface, minimising brake fade with a large surface area. Additionally, by putting it in the middle of the fork (in the U of the two arms), one reduces the amount of drag and the visual disturbance of the bike.
